Yeah, I can't figure out what the allure is to those things.
It seems to me though that everybody I see on them are either newbie kooks or veteran watermen.
I saw Laird on one at the 'Bu but he also does tow-in which I disdain.

As for me, the less gear the better.
Trunks and a board is all I need.

~I do wear a wetsuit when it's cold and a leash when it's crowded.

    Longboarding is waaaaaay fun.

Longboarding is to Chess, as shortboarding is to an X-Box.

Both are fun, but require different moves.

Former Gorge rats represented well in the footage, Levi and KP.

Hmmm...That's an interesting analogy you've made there.

A pretty smart kid I know made this one:

Snowboarding is for people who skateboard.
Skateboarding is for people who don't surf.

I'm sure stand up has its place but that was painful to watch Laird flounder in those conditions. I was releived when someone had the good sense to rig up and sail it.

I clicked on the link to to find the answer to this question.

I've seen Rob Machado out on one at Seaside and Cardiff a few times. It seems to make sense only for him:

Loaded former WCT pro with sweet oceanfront house, too much time to kill and a powerful inducement to continue propogating the very marketable underground-soul mystique.

    Sure looks boring, though.
I should want to cook him a simple meal, but I shouldn't want to cut into him, to tear the flesh, to wear the flesh, to be born unto new worlds where his flesh becomes my key.

Amazing the number of lemmings that will follow

I was trying to figure out why you'd buy one of those instead of a surf kayak, or just a plain kayak. If the surf is that shitty....

    Thumbs up Knuckle heads..

I'll explain it 4 you. If your well rounded and have vareity in your life, you can ride and enjoy all kinds of conditions, women and water activities like, kayak, short board, long board, stand up board, snowboard, etc, etc....whatever. If you don't get the "Variety" factor, you won't get "it" because you need your "Click" "group" "whatever"so you can feel like somebody...like you belong and so you feel smart and special-eR than everybody else... And "Clicks" are great for chicks and fags. Men respect each other and the water. So, If you don't get "it" you won't and in your mind you'll always be right. Dead right....so go back to starbucks and sit and talk about not getting "it" and how right you were...and how wrong this post was.

I say they're only OK when waves are too small to paddle. Unfortunately, they have made their way out into the lineup at places like Laniakea now. It was bad enough that guys used to ride their 9'6 guns when it was only four feet, now we have people stand up paddling?

One of the many reasons why I only surfed country a few times this year.

The only person your kidding is yourself. When's the last time you really enjoyed a day surfing at the beach without the scarcity mind set? Beach, beach, beach, me, me,me, it's coke whore talk.

Actually, not in the slightest. He was just sitting(or standing rather)on the outside getting waves.

Also, not that he needs me to defend him but I casually introduced myself to him one morning after we had both finished breakfasting at a local eatery where we had an exchange that lasted for no more than probably 60 seconds.
He acted like a polite and courteous grown up.
