Einstein Bagels - What the fuck?
They are to bread products what North Face is to sorority girls.
I'd rather eat cream cheese out of a shoe.

99% of bagels are shite. Saw Thomas' ( the English muffin people) setting up a national bagel day display in grand central today. My first thought was "where is Alan Funt hiding?"

It might be heresy but as much as I love a good old boiled & baked NY style bagel I really like steamed bagels too sometimes. Soft yet still with some tooth if done right. Beats the shit outta that sweet crap they serve in Montreal.

Was it the Jewish name that tricked you into trying them?
Better watch out for Godfather's pizza the next time you're in WY.

H&H closed their upper west side place a few years ago... sad. Tax shit I think.

Never been to one, but for some reason I ended up on their wikipedia page. Found it interesting that their business model is based around stores being located in places without an extensive history of bagel consumption (in other words they stay the fuck out of the north east).
What does that tell ya?

Never underestimate the lack of taste to popularity.
although there are always those out-layers like Hardee's, Krispy Kreme, Waffle House, and Chipotles that knock it out of the park. But I blame those success stories more on sure fire hangover cures than good taste.

This was pretty much my reaction the first and only time I tried an Einstein bagel. Being an ex-NYer, sometimes I get cravings for delicious doughy products such as bagels and pizza. I no longer buy bagels unless I am i am visiting NY. I'll occasionally get some cheesy sauce bread, but I won't call it pizza.

I was always a fan of Noah's bagels in CA, but don't really care for any bagels that I've found elsewhere. Other than a lender's at my place that I toast and slap cream cheese on, not sure about what all i'm missing in the bagel world.
