What Still Goes in CO Right Now?

Making a trip from Salt Lake to Denver next weekend and trying to get in a July ski day if possible. Willing to make a decent detour off our route for the right spot. Something roadside off one of the passes would be awesome, but a decent hike wouldn't kill me either. How is St Mary's Glacier or RMNP looking?

Haven’t been in a couple weeks but I bet Sundance/rmnp still has something to ski, although it might be nasty, lumpy by now

I'm not skiing right now because it will probably suck.
But if I were going to go, I'd go do Skyscraper. Because it will probably suck less than anything else.

Looks like that's the current plan unless someone else has some better beta!

That’s not “roadside” by any stretch. You’ll get turns though. I’d go for RMNP, St Mary’s or Skyscraper but who knows

Yeah, definitely not roadside! Did see some tracks off Neva in a beautiful couloir.

    OP: maybe check Jones Pass?

This was 5 days ago at Lake Caroline under Mt Bancroft...about 3 miles, 1,500 vert to get in there:

For a one day quick hit skyscraper should be good. May need a lil bit of clearance for the road up to it though.

The biggest reason for not doing skyscraper is that the ideal route seems to take you in from the top and out from the bottom, and I'll be with my girlfriend who doesn't ski. I'm sure I could throw some crampons in the pack and boot back up the line, but that seems steep and not too fun. She would enjoy Neva and being able to hang around at Dorothy lake while I take my lap. I know it's not roadside, but it's also more than just some patchskiing so it seems worth it to me. I'm between St Mary's and Neva, but the Neva approach is only about 3.5 each way and under 2000 vert so not too bad. Most approaches that length in Utah are around 3000-4000 ft

Sure that could work with the Gfriend.

Although realize neva actually requires you to hike UP the trail to hike DOWM into the valley to then hike UP to Dorothy and UP to snow to ski DOWN and hike DOWM the valley to hike back UP to the trail to then hike DOWN to the car. But maybe that’s just my pet peeve about that side of the valley since the property owner in the valley cut off direct access years ago. It’s not that bad but just my jadedness with that area.

^^^I think you can hike to Lake Dorothy and then transverse over to the snow on Neva and then go up...no need to be down in the bottom of the drainage.

It’s 2,000k to the lake then another 1000k to the top of the snow.

You can hike down (no trail) from skyscraper. It's some class 3 for a couple move but not horrible. My GF and friend did so last year about this time.

I'm sold as long as the weather holds out. That looks like fun, hopefully those couloirs still go in another few days

My wife skied North Face of Democrat on Sunday, and said there's 1500 vf of good snow with easy access. FWIW. Sadly, I was on a plane.

(Our overnight to ski Friday night and Saturday morning on some unnamed peaks near Georgia Pass was good in that I made my Sat afternoon fight but the skiing:walking ratio was pretty poor.)

Skid Skyscraper yesterday on July 4th with my son. A ton of people out there. Lots of snow, but it is getting tough to ski — sun cupped and melt rivulets.Click image for larger version.
