Sverre Liliequist - back flip out of avalanche...

As it says in the title.
Sverre Liliequist backflips out of an avalanche in Zermatt (Swatch skier cup).
Competion apparently put on hold after this run ?

Fast forward to 55s... Deserves its own thread.

That's b/c they didn't need to see anyone else's run to know who won!

That's awesome...and awesomely scary (to me...not so much him).
It makes perfect sense...until you think about it.

I suspect there's logic behind the madness, but I'm too dumb to see it.

For real. That's spectacularly impressive. I wonder if he even knew about the slide? Or was he too focussed on his line?

Wait- kinda of looked like he had no idea an avalanche was coming on behind him when he hit that backflip. Cool footage anyway.

So sick That is the first avalanche segment clip I have ever watched (seems they are in too many films) I have ever been pumped watching.

Seriously what run could possibly compete with that

Cool, who needs beacons, avalungs, or ABS packs, just backflip out of an avalanche. Who knew avi avoidance was so simple.

    Fucken awesome.

I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

impressive but i think "back flip out of an avalanche" is a little misleading.

Should have deployed his airbag while inverted.

While technically you are correct, until you backflip in front of an avalanche, STFU

spook is correct. he never was anywhere near the avalanche or any danger from it. was barely even sluff management. probably was impressive for the judges to see but hopefully didn't change his score any. and that was the weakest terrain i've ever seen for any big mountain comp. definitely not up to the level of the riders there

why? i don't know shit but i would imagine a back flip out of an avalanche would be almost impossible because you wouldn't able to control your takeoff if you could even take off. more likely it would be "getting swept over a small cliff."

so if someone says "backflip out of an avalanche" i'm expecting pretty much miraculous. this wasn't that.

if they'd just said "backflip in front of an avalanche" i would have thought, "wow, ballsy." which is what i thought, right after i got over being disappointed that it wasn't out of an avalanche.
