So Silverton is bone dry?
I have been finishing my basement this summer/fall. A crappy Husker football season and slow start to the ski season at the same time have been much less bothersome than they normally would. I haven’t even been out yet.
my friends left for Jackson via Vail for a few weeks.
I’m on vacation I thought this sacrifice would help for sure, alas no luck
Why didn't you go anywhere for vacation? Chilling at the neighborhood pool isn't gonna make it snow.
We were booking our spring beach trip this morning. That pic does not help me get into winter. We even thought about blowing off family Christmas and going to PV for 2 weeks.
Balmy mtb riding in the Front Range. What a nice September this has been.
Oh, wait....
Oh well..looks gorgeous at Copper for the Olympic Qualifying.
Gorgeous, yeah...conditions were what you would expect.
They have a good number of lifts open and are blowing plenty of snow. They also had the new HSQ going for testing.
I got to smash down some powder on a few directed skiing runs, so I guess I got to scratch that itch.
If you've got some rock skis Bergman Bowl at Keystone is holding the goods right now. Unfortunately it's short and the traverse out sucks so I wouldn't do it unless you had a rock ski AT setup. Doing a bunch of laps without having to make the shitty traverse out is the move.
What's the long term forecast look like?
No snow next 14 days or what?
I managed half a day of mach stupid laps on skinny metal skis on empty runs.
Lemons/lemonade.
uhhhh, damn.......... this is not good.
Remember that pic from a few years ago of the Vail patroller hiking down the back bowls because there was no snow (in January)?
What really sucks is that Vail mountain doesn't seem interested in snow making. They focus a TON on the Golden Peak race training zone (which I understand is actually paid for by ski clubs and VMS), but still. They manage to get that shit open ASAP and it looks GREAT! Meanwhile, the paying customers get fucked.
It's time for Vail mountain to take a long hard look at their future and realize that they need to develop a better early season plan. There needs to be more focus on a "no snow contingency plan" that would mean blowing snow up high on chairs 3 and 4.
Fuck Born Free and Lionshead.
It was only $121 to start I believe. Maybe they will hold the price until opening more terrain. Maybe they should go to full price to ensure a little elbow room for those willing to pay.
