Here in northeastern Styria (very) mellow terrain is OKish now. The woods (sadly enough we have lots of them ...) are still at the limit (but doable with a lot of care).

Snuck in a quick lap before work this morning. Snow turned pretty quickly on the sunny side, but happy to have it almost to myself rather than battle it out in the couloirs above with the crowds.

Was in Kitzsteinhorn last week and it was pretty chill (bumped into Shaun White). Snow was decent, sun was out, but it was really dumping snow when we left. I'm assuming it got pretty good there for a while during the week.

Next up is St. Anton for Christmas. Hoping for some good snow--anyone been around there lately?

^^ true that - but everyone is peaceful here as everybody gets some pow these days. Amazing forecast. The West of the Alps gets buried!

Ha, was waiting for that! We were visiting my gf's parents and generally just cruising the pistes with them, but we were surprised by how much (un-forecast) snow there was and couldn't resist ducking into the trees a few times - but 'deep not steep' really was the case (everything <20°).

There actually would be some really sweet steeper trees/pillows there too, but not quite enough snow to cover all the stumps and branches yet.

Sion newspaper (Nouvelliste) reported that this last dump was the biggest in 18 years in the Valais with 70-100cm of snow.

Cham mags: what is the likelihood that the top of LGM opens up in the next week or two given the strong start of the season snowfall-wise?

Trying to evaluate alternatives over the holidays (18 Dec - 2 Jan) given the dismal situation in the Western US.

It will. Looks to calm down from this weekend with high pressure in the forecast. Between Cham, Courmayeur and Verbier you will have the best Dec conditions for years and IMHO the best lift served off piste in the Alps...
