A little late to the party, and can't add much, but Holy Shit!
Lemme see if I can summarize:
This Fein d00d seems to believe that Russia's nuclear arsenal makes them a military threat to Europe's NATO members; some would argue more so since Russian conventional capability has imploded.
His understanding of NATO is vacuous. Doubt of its mission peaked in 1999, coupled with the mistaken belief in many quarters that the Russian nuclear threat had ended.
Further- Since Russia is apparently no threat to anyone, we don't have to anything to appease them. They have to adjust in order to suit our reality, not the other way around.
So, Russia is too weak to threaten anyone, but invaded to keep Ukraine out of NATO -- hence, Russia rationally believed she could thwart NATO through a military solution?
Ergo, we eliminate NATO, Ukraine can't join, and thus Russia will feel happy and go home?
I think that this is what I just read.
What disturbs me isn't that such balderdash (haven't used that word in a while) exists, but that so many allegedly deep thinkers are actually impressed by this excuse for reasoning. It defines self-delusion, and yet, it apparently commands a large slice of what used to be a rationalist political viewpoint.
If anyone figures out what Fein's handle is on Padded Room, it might clarify a few things.Daniel Ortega eats here.

I think Fein is dead wrong in this instance.
Bitch of it is there are other areas where he and I are in agreement. IE: Banning members of Congress from trading securities or impeaching and convicting Trump when the opportunity was available.I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

Will someone remind me when appeasing a militaristic government with a stated goal of occupying and controlling neighboring countries was a successful tactic in changing their goals and play nice?

Russia believes it has the right to dominate the free nations that surround it and supplant the wills of their peoples with Russian will... Rooskie Mir... NeoSoviet horseshit. Russia's naked imperialism is no different than the Imperial Japan's Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere, Nazi Germany's concept of the Greater Reich, the Soviet Union's dominance of Easter Europe, or China's expansionism.
And fucktards make the claim that NATO has no rasion detre... ask the Baltics, Poland, and Scandinavia what they think of that argument after they saw what happened to Chechnya, Syria, Georgia, and Ukraine? Yes of course, Russia is a kitten who nobody would ever need to defend against. If that argument is still being pitched now in Nov 2022, it shows that the Russian intelligence service has run out of ideas.
US benefits from NATO due to global stability in Europe, and the backup in case of China war... good stabilizing deterrent and cooperation with like minded western liberal democracies.Originally Posted by blurred

Lukashenko's gonna do whatever he thinks offers the best odds of him staying alive and in power. I'd have to think he's more afraid of his own countrymen than the Russian army or even the FSB at this point but who knows.

The Foreign Minister of Belarus Vladimir Makei has died suddenly at the age of 64, the country’s foreign ministry said Saturday.
“Vladimir Makei, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, has suddenly passed away today,” the Foreign Ministry said in its official Facebook account, without providing more details about the circumstances surrounding the foreign minister’s death.
The President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on Saturday expressed his condolences to the family and friends of Makei, according to a statement published on the presidential website."We don't beat the reaper by living longer, we beat the reaper by living well and living fully." - Randy Pausch

Well maybe Lukashenko should be nervous...
Belarus' Foreign Minister, ally to president Lukashenko, dies at 64
Belarusian authorities didn't name the cause of death as Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei wasn't known to suffer from any chronic illnessIn September, Makei defended Belarus’ position to the United Nations Security Council.
“Belarus is referred to as an ‘accomplice of the aggressor’ or even a party to the conflict. We have said and continue to say: Belarus has never advocated the war. But we are not traitors either!” Makei said in a reference to Belarus’ close alliance with Russia. “We have allied commitments, and we are strictly following and will follow the spirit and letter of international treaties to which we are parties.”
In Moscow, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that ministry officials were shocked by the news of Makei’s death.

Where did you pick up this little cancer? Do you think it will somehow benefit us?
You know, entertaining Russian/Chinese-sponsored notions of capitulation and appeasement unchanged since before Terrorist Nation invaded is not "Open minded", "Fair and balanced", "Critical thinking" or anything but Bunny SpookRod Cuckism. Don't value liberty and and can't feel much for the nobility of Ukrainians fighting against long odds to repel imperial fascist invasion because it doesn't make you ski any better? You suck anyway.
If BunnyRod wants to shoot you in the head and I don't, do you feel like there's room for compromise?
