It starts at 6? Makes more sense for most people than starting at 8

Been happy with the Mantras?

I got them for cheap as they were one of last season's demo pair floating around Japan, pre-mounted. So, while it's not my binding of choice, the ski is this weird combination of super easy and predictable, to trustworthy when it gets hectic.
It's really damp and quiet in crud or on ice, but it's also not demanding at all. It's both more stable than my 84mm double titanium Nordica Jet Fuel, and more surfy than my 2003 Gotama. This is due to metal & tip/tail rocker combined with mellow traditional camber.
The sidecut is a trip. I can go slow and link short radius arcs in the mellow flats, or haul ass and go super G in the steeps. It's a more turny LP105 in the slows but just as stable in the fasts. (this sentence is for you directly. ;-) If I had just stuck an air and had to go straight through chunder for the next 200 meters before being able to stop, I'd want the LP105 on my feet. The 102 wants to turn. I think that's the main point where these two skis diverge is in runout characteristics and low speed/flat characteristics.
I don't have much experience on other skis of the same genre but I'm pretty sure the Mantra 102 is what every ski manufacturer is trying to make for their do-it-all ski. The K2 108ti was looser, less stable, softer tip, likely better in bottomless snow. But my bottomless snow ski is a Renegade. So for me the Mantra 102 is not a one-ski quiver. It's a non-powder ski. It rails with the best of them, dragging hip on groomers like a GS ski... and then it surfs for a playful way of shutting down speed.
I am also interested in trying other wood/metal combos for this genre. But I don't really know what I'd be asking for. This ski is already super stable and super loose. So... I don't know what else I need. Surely other make-ups would feel different.
LP 105 = Comp ski. Survives the runout.
M 102 = Carves or surfs. Choose one.
K2 108ti = 90% Holds an edge but likely floats better than the other two.Last edited by gaijin; 01-22-2020 at 01:22 AM.

Black Crows Justis looks like Julian Regnier's take on Armada ARV Ti. Width in between 96 and 106, twin tip, double titanal. Look forward to seeing more specs and will probably get it next year for resort.
The new Corvus that he designed is great, so I trust him to upgrade the ARV as well

Att Gaijin:
Good stuff, mate!
Will make a real effort to demo a pair.
Hope the snow comes, and you can get busy on the Rens.Last edited by Island Bay; 01-22-2020 at 11:09 AM.

If you’re skiing at 6 you don’t need this binding. And then by your argument if you need more than the 12 then you’re already covered with the 18. What am I missing. I’m not denying the 15 makes more sense, it’s just that I don’t see it solves a problem that actually exists.

2020-2021 Gear Rumors / Pictures etc
Totally agree on crossover stuff. If I’m touring I’m touring. If alpine P18 in 120 alpine and charging at high speed (whyturn). I don’t want to ski my tecton in resort or fiddle with shift. I also ski pivot at 10 and will be stoked on the 15.
Right tool for the right job!
So does this mean no more 14 and 12, 15, 18 only?
Or is it ski light 14 with WTR bull?
Sent from my iPhone using TGR ForumsI need to go to Utah.
Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?
So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....
Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues
