This guy in Oregon survived the fires by spending a night on a rock in the middle of a river with a patio chair and a can of beer he found on the riverbank. "Hell yeah, I drank it." Talk about cool under fire.

not going to change the overall picture, but it’s a nice change for now

I've entered the "Bargaining" stage of smoke related depression. Late last week it was "if we could just get to moderate air quality." Today it's "I'll settle for unhealthy air." Tomorrow I may just damn the torpedos and throw all the windows open.

Currently sitting at 262. At least it's not 300!

I finally broke down and swam outside on Wednesday because the AQI dipped below 200. It felt fine, but I kept it pretty short (about 40 minutes) and at a moderate pace.

The near level smoke forecast has been flawed the last week. But the vertically integraded gives a good idea of where the smoke is heading. Lastest from 11 pm Saturday night. Finally some relief for the PNW, particularly west of the Cascades. Spotty smoke lingering east and of course, the fires in Oregon still smoldering and supplying fresh smoke Click image for larger version.

Yeah, I caved, too. Went for a mountain bike ride in AQI=162. Only rode about 14 miles and felt fine. It was eerily quiet, though, and with the sky coloring, kind of apocalyptic.

See that little yellow/orange/red spot in the bottom slightly right part of Washington? That's me.

FedEx is on about a 1% success rate for me up here. 50% on these skis. They fucked up the Voile order. I'm shocked they actually delivered the Icelantics.

It's not always people pets and livestock being evacuated:

Hats off to the ODFW cavalry! Yesterday, 700 adult spring Chinook and summer steelhead were successfully evacuated out of the Rock Creek Fish Hatchery and transported to Coles River hatchery for spawning/hatching. It was incredible to see these folks execute the mission during an active fire situation (a fire flared up on-site while they were there).

    Natures own smoked salmon.

Mikey, is that trap even baited? You know you have to put peanut butter or something on the plastic cheesy thing?
