I have an impact driver^^ which works well on Phillips or PZ screws and they are pretty cheap, a good tool to have. Back in the 70's japanese motorcycles were held togetehr with cheap phillips head screws which stripped really easy so you needed one of these to fix them, hitting the head of the driver with a hammer translates to rotational forces via ramps in the driver body so the driver head forces itself into the screw with every blow of the hammer as it rotates & can actualy fix the screw head

the one i got also has a pz bit

yeah I check all the fasteners on a binding and the DIN settings as part of getting the ski ready to go for winter, I am careful on the screws holding a plastic tech heelpiece together, I just check to see if they are loose but I don't turn them cuz wood screws into plastic might strip

cross post from the Shift thread.

new Shift guy here, mounting first pair.

I read about the minor toe gap after proper installation. By my heal plates seem to not sit flush, almost like they're ever so slightly convex. I
f the plastic wasn't so rigid I'd think I could just muscle them flush with the screws, but yea, they are stiff and I doubt it'll flatten out.

    Anyone else see this?

187 GPO, MAP carbon, semi Swiss cheesed but still awesome skis. I hope they don't explode.

How does 4FRNT measure from the tail to rec line? Straight pull on these was just under 870 mm (same as Blister states). 4FRNT website states 880 mm. Attachment 304162

Not mounting related, but I don't care the GPO graphic in woodveneir is second to none... Great ski and killer topsheet...!

Not Phillips - JIS is what they used (the dot on the screwhead is the giveaway). They strip easily if you use a Phillips head (but who the shit has a JIS driver??). A manual impact driver is a wonderful thing!

PZ screws for bindings need to go away. So easy to strip... My Plum Oazos have them and I'm strongly considering swapping them with standard torx if they are the same length as the Dynafits screws.

A #2 square drive (Robertson for those of you who speak Canukistani) can be helpful when dealing with a close to stripped PZ screw head.

this might be another good reason for QK inserts

the screws I’ve bought for those always seem better than standard binding mount screws

of course you can have issues with inserts you mount in your own fucking skis

Same as alpine mounts. The Nords use longer screws and 14mm bits.....because they can.

Ha! I've only stripped 1 torx to date by being a complete idiot. I've stripped multiple PZ screws without the excuse of not heating the epoxy...
I mounted the Plums yesterday using the PZ screws they shipped with since I was short on torx and even with a brand new bit I had some skipping if the driver wasn't held perfectly straight. YMMV and I'm sure the Belgian Tripel I was pouring down my gullet didn't help though.

This is why I HIGHLY recommend store skis with the likely wax you'll ski on the next season. It'll save everyone twice the cost, material, time and effort. Dont put it on thick either. Basically, brush and go skiing. Light re-waxing if needed.

At six pack per row=you'll need a pony keg.

yeah it’s a little silly because so many of these have extruded bases

it wasn’t my call I just got stuck with it - the kid that did it just doesn’t know any better

and he really laid the wax on thick

Sounds like you're doing it right, no worries on a mangled screw if this is your approach.

One mangled screw and several Albions & packs of Hardman orange later, I mounted a small family of Down skis:

The big guys in the back are a remount to deal with a shifted topsheet, the center line was at +1.5 cm forward. I moved the toe pieces back 4 cm so I could reuse 2 out 4 holes and go to -2.5 cm. I also added a shim since the pin delta on those Speed Turns is so large.
The other mounts are fresh. It's always a treat to deal with non adjustable bindings and their precise heel gaps... The Plum Oazo heel doesn't have a template so I made my own, I can share it, it's not as refined as the ones found in this thread (missing the fore-aft BSL measurements to align with the centerline) but it works in combination with the Plum Race toe templates uphtread which gives the correct toe placement.

Swapped some bindings, did some mental math, agonized over 1/32", and mounted some skis.
