DMX - either let me fly or give me death.
Sad to hear about X.
Very complex dude but man did I love his songs. He’s like one of those dudes that functions off all emotion. Even his later interviews he was high on something.
Doesn’t look good for him being on life support.
It’s Dark and Hell is Hot is one of my favorite late 90’s rap album.
Watched a documentary on him a few weeks back and he’d rob people using his Pit Bull back in the day. “A dog is like a bullet that chases you...”
His alter ego Damien.

I used to go to the Nathan's on central ave in Yonkers sometimes on Wednesday (?) nights in the summer as a teenager to hopefully catch the Ruff Ryders crew with their tricked out bikes, quads, and low riders. It's hard to explain what would unfold, it was basically like a video. Throngs of people decked out in that sort of urban mad max late 90s early 2000s vibe, baseball jersey's, girls on bikes wearing so little I felt embarrassed to even steal a glance. Did I see Eve? who knows.
I am not even entirely sure why I was so drawn there, I probably stumbled across it once and just kept going back because it was more interesting than a lot of other stuff some kid could get into back then. I obviously in no way fit in but there was something undeniable real and unique in that whole scene they had and I would just stand there invisible on the sidelines of it at a safe distance, alone, and no one ever said a word to me.
X was really not comparable to other rappers. Other people were glitzier or tougher, but there was something real about him, not trying to outsmart everyone, or out rap them and it was fun to sing along to Damien ^^^ with friends. The growling schtick was sort of hokey but it also seemed to come from this honest place, what were you gonna say about it? Well, not much after seeing the whole crew show up, I'll say that.
So I'd head to the arcade weekly and dump quarters into Circus Voltaire, Monster Bash, Medieval Madness, and Junkyard, among others on that night and if I couldn't still remember the feeling of the heat of the blacktop in summer when I think about that stuff I'd barely believe it happened. It was a different world then, not one fucking cell phone obviously to 'gram it all, and I guess part of his passing makes me feel really old and removed from that kid almost 20+ years ago because the world has just really fucking changed.
Anyway, I hadn't thought about any of that in a long time but it's sad to hear he passed.j'ai des grands instants de lucididididididididi
