I doubt they made it past panorama point.

A couple 20 something Indian guys in jeans and northface puffy jackets are post-holing their way up, just ahead of us. Mind you, its already 45 degrees at 730am, supposed to get up to mid-high 50s with full sun later. As we go past them they are sweating profusely and one of them asks my lady "Is this the way to the top?". She honestly gets confused and asks "the top of what?", and the other one points to the summit and says "we are going to the top of the mountain". My lady kind of chuckles and goes "uh, yeah, i mean this IS the way to the top, we're just REALLY far away from it. Good luck with that guys".

I gotta give them props though, they kept their postholing out of the skintrack, which is more than can be said for plenty of other fully kitted out weekend mountainers up there that day.
This is perfectly normal for Rainier.

Indian people fucking love snow. You have to respect their gaper spirit. Here they pay $30 just to ride the scenic chair lift one time around and not even get off at the top.

There were roughly a million sweaty gapers above panorama point last Saturday in the early afternoon.

It was a spectacle worthy of a Walt Whitmanesque poem.

I was there. I was one of them.

What follows is a report, prepared by the New York State DEC, of recent missions carried out by Forest Rangers in the Adirondacks.

    Town of Wilmington

Wilderness Rescue: On May 19 at 4:19 pm, Essex County 911 transferred a call to DEC’s Ray Brook Dispatch reporting two hikers requesting assistance. The hikers had parked at Connery Pond and walked to Lake Placid. While at Lake Placid, they spoke with an unknown individual about hiking to the summit of Whiteface, which they were told would take about 45 minutes. After climbing through the ice and snow to the summit for several hours, the couple called for a taxi to return to their vehicle, which was six miles away. They were informed the Whiteface Mountain toll road was closed. Forest Ranger Robert Praczkajlo picked up the hikers at the Whiteface summit and gave them a courtesy transport back to their vehicle by 5:50 pm.

Damn, those folks had 4+ hours of daylight left when they realized they couldnt get a taxi the 6 miles back. Uninjured folks called 911 because they didnt think they could walk downhill at 1.5mph?

Maybe he just wants to float around on the board and look down in to the depths below. Sounds kinda fun, if that's the case.

    Agreed.
Sometimes I wonder how gaper these people are that post these posts. What defines a gaper? Is the guy that’s making dad turns down the face of this mountain the one posting others gaper quotes? Will I eventually be a gaper? Only time will tell.

I wear a necklace with some accessory cord and a zuni thunderbird and an elk pendant. It's basically a choker.

Some girl from steamboat asked me the other night if it was a bolo. And, I was wearing a t-shirt.
