Call me biased but I still think Thing #2's giant 360 air near the top of the Bec in '19 was a sickbird move that went undervalued and underappreciated. I was there and that shit was gnarly. Terrible viz, high-consequence, etc.

You have to stand at the top to fully appreciate the Bec. It’s not so much about skiing skills but about ones mental ability to drop into abyss. The upper part is survival for us recreational skiers. Chicken turn - sliding - chicken turn is the name of the game.

It certainly is, and is also very much about social media presence. New arrivals learn that very quickly and veterans play the game to stay visible and on the tour. Once you figure that out you get to decide if you want to play or not.
That said, if you're absolutely killing it you can't be denied whether or not you play their game.

I learned over time and pretty early that while he is willing to take risks he ain't reckless, so I learned to trust his judgement. I've seen him walk away from moves that landed others in heli-lifts in spite of his attempts to talk them out of it and refusal to do them himself.
It is for sure scary to see your kid do that stuff, but you gotta let go a little if you want to be there without shitting yourself every time and knowing they're not stupid is a big piece of that.
He makes occasional noise about requalifying. Griffen M heading back to the tour is a little bit motivating as they were good pals. I think he probably could get back on it, but he's always been conflicted about playing the popularity game vs. just being a great skier/competitor. He hates that social shit and doesn't want to do it. We'll see...

Your kids are pretty cool. Thing #2 has always said just wants his skiing to speak for him and has never been willing to do the shit that sponsors and the tour have demanded. Sometimes there's been some cost to that, but that's who he is. Makes me proud too, so I get it.

I was super stoked to see Aymar on the podium. This is why the FWT wanted him on the podium

^^ That's one of the better versions of that meme I've seen. Great audio mixing.

Thought this was cool. From MSP's 2017 flick drop everything. Includes a comparison of old school skwa rippers to Ross Tester, with a few side by sides

I think the no Hakuba could have been COVID as much as wanting to get out of the venue. It was certainly a very different venue from the typical FWT competition arena. It will be interesting to learn more about the new format they are teasing.

I vote to keep this thread going.
Bummer Japan just never really clicked. Logistically and snowpack. Stoked to see a new venue, though!

To be fair, the Hakuba venue that was proposed to FWT was never actually used. It was much bigger and more open than what was used. The avi hazard was too much. Japan never should have been a January stop. February is still iffy.
But Europe-Japan-Europe all in March? No way.
