    This bums me out.

    He discovered Weezer too.

My buddy went to a music school in LA with Rivers Cuomo. They were both from the same town in CT, and went there together. My buddy was a total metal head, long hair, etc. He thought that hair band music would never die. Rivers had other ideas.
Weezer was practicing one day with the door open in the studio, and Ric Ocasek walked by. Weezer was born.

    RIP

    Bummer.
Been on a classic Cars binge lately, too. Blasting The Cars and Candy-O the past two weeks.

OOC, why didn't you post this in the Music forum?

    Shit. Hadn’t heard this yet.

Besides the Cars, I’ll always appreciate the fact that he produced the Bad Brains Rock for Light album. A man of wide and good taste. RIP.

Ok, Eddie Money, Ocasek, we have a trifecta forming. Taking bets. So many choices.

The Cars were one of the bands I cut my teeth on growing up. And hearing Moving In Stereo on Fast Times movie was life changing. Maybe it was Phoebes tits.

Oh well, before someone calls me out- here is the real story-
I guess I heard it wrong, or maybe drinks were involved.

"Your Weezer productions may be the among the most popular albums you produced.

I did a few of their albums, the first and the third and then one five years ago. I love Rivers and that music.

The first time I heard that, I was in LA driving around in a car. Somebody from Geffen had sent a tape to my hotel, and I was driving around listening to it. I was thinking this band is unbelievably good, they must be a heavy metal band. Their demo was phenomenal. It was extremely muddy, just like the first album. I went to their rehearsal, and they had all these amps turned up to 12. Quite the experience. Everything rattled and they went in and did it. Rivers is phenomenal. And very prolific—he’s got tons of songs you’ve never heard."

    I love Paulina.

The Cars were fun. In concert, they sounded almost exactly like their albums. This disturbed me, a bit.

Not to be morbid, but to be a true trifecta it will have to be another musician who was huge in the '80s...

    Yup, in 2018.

And not to diminish Ocasek's iconic rock status, but I think folks tend to forget the he kind of shared frontman duties with Benjamin Orr...

Yep. Orr sang some of their best songs.

But RIP Ric O, this is very sad news. The Cars (first album) and Candy-O are all time rock albums. And they hold up incredibly well with age. Brilliant music.
