Video of the Dallas cop freaking out, shooting at a 40 lb dog and killing a woman. How can anyone look at this and go, yea our cops aren’t being trained to over perceive threats and be trigger happy.

Not whataboutism. Risk comparison is a vital part of risk management, particularly on a personal level.
Dunning-Kruger effect
For example, the odds of dying while skiing are 2 to 4 orders of magnitude less than being killed by police, depending on demographics. That should help afford you some scale of the risks.

Choice is irrelevant. Don't try to be obtuse. The comparison is meaningful to skiers, and was brought up because some of the people on this forum ski.
Without a tangible comparison these tend to be just numbers, which can easily be misunderstood--as you seem to be demonstrating by getting all riled up in the wrong direction.

You guys realize you're commenting on a DD post, which means you have no idea what it means, and neither does he.

Speaking for yourself you're right: skiing analogies won't increase your understanding. OTOH, defining "we" might be challenging, since understanding risk is a thought exercise and different things help different people.
On the gripping hand, OG makes a good point--I'm reading the post as if I'd written it, not necessarily as dd intended.

08-14-2019, 02:10 PM #3312COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A South Carolina sheriff’s department says it caught one of its own deputies last week in a child sex sting that netted over a dozen other people.
The State reports Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced the arrest of Deputy Derek Vandenham on Tuesday. Twelve other law enforcement agencies assisted in “Operation Relentless Guardian,” during which deputies pretended to be 13- to 15-year-old girls and chatted with men online.Know of a pair of Fischer Ranger 107Ti 189s (new or used) for sale? Oregon state police car decorated for Pride riles some retired troopers
https://www.oregonlive.com/politics/...-troopers.html
Some retirees voiced their objections in a closed Facebook group for retired Oregon State Police employees. They said the rainbow-outfitted car was inappropriate for the state’s largest law enforcement organization.
“I’m probably not going too far out on a limb to say that the people who support this would not be supportive of pro-life or pro traditional family values graphics being put on the patrol car,” one retired trooper wrote.
“This may be just the beginning,” wrote a retired sergeant. “Rainbow uniforms and stickers for guns. Badges that say we pay for abortions.”
