True, and I hated having to kill them as they are pollinators but they were in my mail/news box and acting aggressive. Last year I had some nesting in one of my horse shelters (12x12 with 2 open sides). All I did was walk into the shelter and they came at me in full force. I ran out of there as fast as I could but not before three of them got me, one in the face. It really surprised me because I coexist with them on my patio where they like to gather pollen from my herb garden. They are never a problem there but probably because it's out in the open and not near their nest.

Time to kill em all. I sprayed a couple nests under the cover this morning early, but found another big'un behind the motor access panel.
    Tonight... They die...

Those last 2 pics are weirdly pornographic. Maybe it's just me.

Yeah Ice, don't go around whippin it out when you see a yellow jacket nest. That's a sure way to get stung on your peter, and trust me, you DO NOT want that to happen.

Dang if those surviving forkers didn't set up another nest so it was a Spectracide morning once again!

Not exactly a semantic difference. Mess with a paper wasp nest and at most a dozen might attack you. Mess with a yellowjack nest and thousands will attack you.

O-M-G! Tenacious f*ckers! Picked up my paper tonight, walked into the house with it under my arm, threw it on the counter and out crawled a wasp! I may have to go to the nuclear option.

I’m surprized many of the health conscious people here are going chemical route. Who knows what they’ll say in ten years that stuff does to us. I like the idea of the foam for less backspray but still.
I’ll certainly concede real yellow jackets are way more serious than paper wasps, but here’s a good visual of earwigs in a mailbox I just doused with 8-1 water to pinesol (can use full strength for more bang)
I swear it knocks paper wasps right out of the air. Showed a couple good ol boys from Nawlins just yesterday and they were ready to duck and run.
Knocked a nest right off their rafters onto the deck and stomped on it.
If you have real yellow jackets and this doesn’t work then sure go chemicals.
Paper wasps are light hornet lite.

That train left the station a long time ago for me. I'm so freakin' sick of being told that everything from the way I peel a banana to how much toilet paper I use is wrong, wrong, WRONG! I'm going to do what needs to get done in the most efficient way possible. Sure I'll try and give my methods a thought but I'm not going to spend a lot of time on it.

It's a freakin' nightmare anymore trying to do the right thing - look at that woman who died from using a metal straw. You can't win for losing and you certainly........

My father, a massive Stones fan, routinely used You Can’t Always Get What You Want as a in-car teaching tool with us kids. I pretended to hate it at the time.

Now, a father myself, I use it all the time with the added bonus of getting a few more Stones tunes out in a bit of a rock block.

Fair warning, not all songs written by the Glimmer Twins are appropriate to use as cautionary tales.

That is my life theme song!

    You get what you need

I think the lady with the banana peel thing was just trying to help people who can't peel bananas. I was not aware of these people until now, but I am happy to hear that they have a workable option.

Well aren't we feeling magnanimous this evening. That's wasn't my intended point. It is more the constant barrage of information about how you would've/could've/should've lived your life better/been a better citizen of the world/been more efficient. It's just too much to bear sometimes.

Just the other day I went to The Iceberg, a local drive-in for a chocolate malt (db malt, yum!) . I wasn't really thinking beyond enjoying the malt which I did but that night on the news there was a story on this beach in Hawaii that is covered in garbage comprised mostly of plastics and there I was enjoying my chocolate malt with a plastic straw. FORK! I'm not enjoying a chocolate malt, I'm killing whales! I thought.

I rinsed and recycled the cup but that straw... that damn straw... what was I to do with it? For days it sat beside my sink mocking me. Daring me to throw it away. I considered my options. I could cut it up... no... no.. that would just make smaller harder to clean-up piece of detritus floating in the ocean killing unsuspecting sea turtles. I could burn it... who am I kidding, I don't burn garbage besides that would pollute the air. I could stake a plant with it but it might poison the soil with all it's plastic nastiness. Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhh hhh!

In the end I put it in a drawer. Out of sight, out of mind..............

Well I seem to have stepped in a hornets’ nest here.

But um, I thought the entire context of TRG was asking or telling how to do things. I vote non pesticide when possible. Wasn’t directed at kq, you just happened to be the last post before I slayed a paper wasp and earwig family.

Not sure if anyone's told you, but posting a link instead of the whole recipe is more efficient.....
