Anyone else thinking this may be a goober with a new and shiny persona that has been here before under another?

I doubt this will be a season worth visiting mission ridge. I could be wrong but moderate El Nino doesn't normally make for amazing coverage at place that isn't really known for big snowfall.

Hmmmm farmers almanac says wet, does not wet equal lots of fluff at higher elevations. Call me crazy but I just watch the weather and break trail for the places that are on point for great snow.

We've had some great freshies-every-run powder days at the Windy Hill
And we've taken one run on boiler plate then got the hell out of there
We've gotten off the high chair at the top clad in XC ski gear @ -10F/-50F wind chill
And we've whooped the best long groomer runs in the PNW

We've farmed freshies between the subalpine firs and western larches
We always bang the B-24 wing early in the day for good luck
And we have shared beers and campfires with the usual suspect RVers

Ya never know what the Windy Hill will bring until you get there

Nah. There's lots of steep challenging runs when there's ample snow cover.

Again, I’m just commenting on the trails directly off the lifts, which is all we ever skied way back then. Hike-to terrain may change all that.

There are some fairly steep sections on the trails off the lifts. but they are fairly short. If you get in over your head, it is fairly easy to make it down to an easier section, unlike some of the advanced runs at other nearby areas. I’m not trying to diss the place, but just trying to set expectations appropriately (at least how I remember it).

But, yeah, if you happen to catch it right after a powder dump, it’s great. Or so I’ve been told. I never managed to do that when I lived in the area. It was always the trade off of I could get to Crystal in an hour, and it would take 3 hours to get to Mission. I went to Mission when other people were organizing the trips, and it never seemed to sync up with a massive powder dump.

it's all about timing and dropping everything. The wind can be savage and I have seen 20" powder blown away in the matter of hours. Can be quite disappointing but teaches you to savor the moment.

makes sense since the cold temps and good grooming keep the piste top-notch during a PNW dry spell.

I struggle every year whether to buy a pass to Mission or Stevens...and in the end Mission always wins. Sure, it doesn't have amazing PNW snowpack or a ton of variety in terrain but if you live in Wenatchee you can't argue with the access. I've also never been in colder/windier weather, ridden deeper snow (albiet a rare occurrence) or pushed the petal to the metal further. And if you follow NWAC and know where to look you can turn a windy 2-3" day into a pow day.

But I sure do miss being able to 100% trust the snowpack

I like that you can park and stay. I have always considered places that allowed this that much better than others. Sometimes the little things make a big difference.

I read on their site that they are expanding the parking areas and such. To bad it is not more mountain...baby steps though.
