    18 volt impact driver question

I bought a a used 18 V 1/2" impact wrench for taking wheels off on my cars but the damn thing needs to be fully charged to break lug nuts loose. It's rated for 250 plus # and it's having problems with anything above 65 #. Does this sound like an aging battery issue ? It's a cheap chicago electric(harbor freight) I bought for $40 so I don't mind buying a second battery.

It could be a compromised battery, 18V is ok but there is much better these days.

You could sink $$ into anuthr batt but better money is on a quality/larger system.

Are you sure it is turned all the way up? My brother bitched about mine not working and I turned it up to the highest level and works fine.

I'm not just fatnslow, also very cheap. For $40 it was worth a shot for a cordless 1/2" drive impact. New ones are like $175 +. Click image for larger version.

You could look at it in this way,

It's red, and Chicago is not to far from Milwaukee.
    or
Chengdu kinda sounds like Chicago, and red is the color of the Chinese communist party.

I have the corded version from Harbor Freight and it struggles.
The cordless version might be good for 1/4" lag bolts.

I will buy a lot of stuff from that mothball ridden fleabag place, but cordless tools would never be one of them. That said, my Rigid 1/2" kills it on one battery. I am pretty sure I didn't pay $175 for it.

Edit- here is the new version- $149 without battery. Might be worth it if you actually need a good one that works.

Are you telepathic ? I was thinking about 95% of that when I spent my lunch money on this Chinese beauty. Only difference is I thought Chicago Electric roughly translated to Snapon in Bulgarian.

Now, your question is you want to double down by buying a battery replacement for an admittedly POS driver?

Buy a corded version for a dollar savings
Or tell your wallet to sack up and throw down on something that works

Pfft,I ain't no loser or a quitter. I get the participation trophy for throwing down for this bad boy and will try another battery. It actually will be handy for other uses in my arsenal of knock off and second hand tools. I do feel pretty manly just walking around with it wearing a mechanic jump suit my dead uncle gave me.

Just buy a breaker bar and loosen them before you use the impact driver.

Kind of defeats the whole purpose.... Yeah, breaker bars aplenty already in my garage.

I have to use a breaker bar with the corded version.
Mainly use it to drive lag bolts and spin nuts.
    Works good for that.
    Not Nascar Approved....
