My wife used to be the bookkeeper for an out patient clinic on Capitol Hill that oversaw the mentally ill and helped them integrate into society by living in their own places, getting help with managing the day to day stuff.
It was much, much cheaper per person than institutionalizing people. But it more or less ended when federal money dried up.Merde De Glace On the Freak When Ski

This isn’t accurate and is being used as a convenient cudgel by low income housing advocates
There is a problem, but directing it at neighborhoods that work (urbanistically) will only help ruin the city.
New zoning is needed but density needs to be balanced and distributed in a way that supports all communities.
I’m not sure I can fairly elaborate here. It’s an immense topic that isn’t easily simplified.

Yeah, Nashville has it's own problems..

But I hear it's scenic, has lots of recreational opportunities and is not abnormally humid for half the year.
Enjoyed a nice Seattle night yesterday at my boys baseball game two blocks away. Walking to a (public!) school auction this weekend at a venue nearby. Got all I need food, friends and entertainment-wise within a mile of my house and skiing and riding an hour away. I've lived around enough to know that it checks more boxes than it doesn't.
Hopefully, though, our incoming council members can take a more balanced approach than their predecessors and devise some real solutions to the growth issues we are experiencing.

Have you people ever heard of Southwest?
I can be in Denver in 2.5 hours for 49 bucks. All the skiing, hiking, and mediocre legal pot I can handle.
2300 homeless compared to Seattles 12000... Good point Wooley. As always you kill it.
About 100k less people in Seattle I believe.
Trigger post triggers. LOL. And Dunfee with that tough talk. You go boy!
I've got to go to Atlanta Motorsports Park. Yall have fun arguing what a great place Seattle is."I don't pretend to have all the answers, and I think there's something to be said for that" -One For The Road

Im in Colorado about once a month. I usually stay in Aspen the entire month of Jan.
That's kind of the neat thing about traveling. I also go to the beach.
If you love Seattle fantastic. Nashvilles growth has annoyed me some but Ill be out of here soon enough. Its a fun town though. Ask anyone who visits.

http://www.chmha.org/ which is underfunded now, has programs where the mentally ill can get help trying to live in a community.
Having been involved, lots of the clients were trying hard to make this work. In our experience, your claim of "most" is inaccurate.
Now there aren't enough resources to support the number of people. This type of social service is factors cheaper than institutionalization. Part of the problem is prioritizing tax breaks for the wealthy over social programs. Amazon should have been taxed.Merde De Glace On the Freak When Ski

I've been to Seattle recently. I'm going to Nashville for a wedding in May. I'll settle this.

My daughter left Nashville because of all the overt racism and bigotry and moved to Seattle. She was raised right.

Awesome! My friend who lives in S. Dakota can fly out too!
Quick math lesson bs: Seattle Metro Population: 3.7 million. Nashville Metro: 1.9 million.
Also, the homeless count you mentioned was from King County, not Seattle. It's one of the largest counties in the country too. They don't teach numbers too well in the south apparently.

There’s 1 person here who thinks Nashville is better than Seattle on a ski forum.
That’s truly what he needs to believe so who cares.
Its like being the only atheist in a synagogue full of devout Christians.
Nobody cares.
Seattle sucks, stay away, don’t take that job and relocate here. You WILL regret it.

I'm not sure the headcount tax was the right way to do it.
Taxes are so completely fucked up in this state though (and generally in the country too)... far too regressive and nearly impossible to fix due to the ballot initiative system and Tim fucking Eyman.
