I actually crashed in a Lake Bomoseen house for a couple months when I worked at Killington. Now that you mention it the entire commute had a pretty familiar feel to it. Rutland may as well be Troy.

Just had the pleasure of driving the stretch of 30 south from 88 down to Roxbury, a very pleasant drive - Lotta history through that corridor. ( I saw a bunch of historic roadside markers ) stretch from schoharie thru middleburgh seemed quite a proper bread basket back in the day.

The Official Argue About Where Upstate NY Is Thread

Just a friendly reminder that the world’s most ski focused rock band is from the upstate. I believe two of them are actually trollers.

Man, it breaks my heart when this thread drops to the second page so here’s a pic from an area that may or may not be in the disputed zone. Who can ID it?

Is that part of the canal in the lower right or just a snowmaking pond?

Snowmaking pond. Anything near the canal would be indisputably upstate in my opinion. It’s Thunder Ridge. It’s a tiny hill in Putnam County- almost in Westchester really. Not much to it by my kid enjoyed it.

Yeah, I don’t know where to go next. I guess we’ll get a night in at Mount Peter this week but after that I don’t know. Back to Catamount or Greek maybe?

Based on your recommendation Aldo, I said to the Mrs., "after Covid, instead of Austria, perhaps we head up to this area?"

I was disappointed to read this in Tripadvisor. Though these comments were made 13 yrs ago.

You know all of these urban exiles who moved away during Covid to some place they never even visited before? This could be a universal thought:

"I can actually confirm lyngjohn's review of Stamford. I live In Stamford. I wish I had known what a dump this place truly was before we had bought our house. We thought that there had to be more around here, BOY WERE WE WRONG! There is NOTHING around here, no shopping, no recreation, no decent medical care, unless you drive atleast 30-40 mins away. The majority of people are white trash. The "Locals" as I call them look like they crawled out of a trailer park on their hands and knees( and that is only for the beer). It seems that hygeine is not something that is taught around these parts. My children have had comments made to them about having new clothes that are in good repair. The school is mediocre, they don't teach a language to the kids, there isn't a Pre-K (you either have to be a welfare recipient or pay a horrible amount) If your are a woman that likes jewelry, designer bags, hairstyles and shoes that are not very functional, this is not the place for you. I am not kidding when I tell you I had a person in Grand union tell me that my Puma sneakers were not very functional. This place is truly Hell on Earth. I could go on forever about this Septic wasteland. Needless to say, we will be selling this house and moving back to civilization."

Although hell on Earth is inner Camden, so, they have no clue. Yet.

    Damn, that sounds rough.

Although I'd like to hear more about this Grand Union Supermarket and possibly how hit compares to a Wegmans. That could stand in for a cultural hub if it compares in any way.

    Well that settles it then.

Vibes to the citizens of Stamford. I hope you get a Seneca Casino annex soon to ease your woes.
