Maybe just attach a sled or some sort of speed limiting parachute?

    My Parachute, a Poem

I have grown this upon my back, a large throat pouch of parenthood, a scrotey backpack, a veiny batwing periodically inflating to the rhythm of life,
blocking my passage through the doors of opportunity,
tightening like a pubey drumhead when the fun might come, when the snow falls, when the sun shines,
Glistening from the exponential effort of everyday cycles.
Yet, this parachute shines with an odd light,
Projecting through the pale dermis and onto others,
the shining moments of life as an infant, with everything new,
in the mountains and near the ocean, learning to move and see.
My bag will grow a bit more before slowly diminishing,
letting out little wisps of putrid green gas that condense and precipitate droplets of laziness and misdirection to roll hissing to the gutter,
ridding the free radicals of aging.
I will pass through doors that were once too small, to friendships, to projects, to loving, to fitness... to rushing downhill in the wind, working the physics problems that must be solved.
My Parachute will not slow this journey for long.

    That's some pretty poetry Norseman.

Getting this thread back on track: Yesterday Honey and I XC skied Wenatchee Ridge from Blewett Pass. 3-4" of fresh schmoo over the most recent rain crust. Gonna take another foot or so -- or, alternatively a significant stretch of warmer weather -- to get DH/WK tours via Tronsen back in shape. The good news is that the schmoo seems to have bonded quite well to the rain crust.

Poem is a joke. Thought it was funny last night in my tired haze but now it's stupid... whatever.

Pondering a tour on Rainier this Friday. Anybody interested?

^^^ indeed, and the parachute will soon enough speed your journey in a few different ways: some wonderfully, some disturbingly and all eye-openingly.

    I liked your poem.

As I hiked around lot 4 source lake trail on Monday with my 2yr old in my pack I get the "parachute" reference. Yes they slow you waaaay down but allow you to reach new heights in life.

thinking of doing some lazy lift-assisted touring at baker by doing laps of shuksan arm and chair 8. i've always stared at this from the resort in awe but never done it. NWAC reported that it slid huge (20 ft crown) after the recent rain which alleviates some avy risk, and there's some snow forecasted before the weekend, so i was thinking this might be a good time.

don't know much about the area though. is this a good idea?

The snow at Mission improved overnight with the clear skies and cold temps. There was some wind last night which made for some unexpected scratchiness is some places and some deeper snow in others. Overall no crust felt where I skied, blue skies and cold snow. As is typical here as the days get longer it looked like we might get some convective showers this afternoon.

    i winged it.

Mission was fun this morning. Plenty of light windblown freshies left in the trees.
