Ahh man, so shitty. Glad to hear he is stable but it is always the worst getting news like this over the internet as you feel so helpless. He was so stoked when he got in touch with me just a week or two ago, was really looking forward to seeing what he was able to accomplish down there. Good luck Jim, I hope you make it home safe and are able to get back on the hill this season.

My good friend is one of the guys on the expedition and I have talked to someone who talked to his girlfriend who talked to him. (AKA I'm 4th hand at this point) but the brief news I heard were that his injuries reported to be pretty bad (spine) and they are trying to figure out if a medical evac or stay the course will be the best option. The good news is they were not in the field but were practicing at or near their hotel and were able to get him help much faster than they would have if they were on the glacier. +++Vibes+++

Jim's been commenting on Facebook posts, so hes down, but he sure as shit ain't out!
From a facebook comment from the man himself:
Thanks for all the well wishes! I broke a couple verebra but the jury is still out regarding how much nerve damage I've sustained. I'm hoping that with surgery and a lot of PT I'll recover... But too soon to know what the chances of that are, just that that's a possibility"If we can't bring the mountain to the party, let's bring the PARTY to the MOUNTAIN!"

Such horrible news. Jim is the most kind, down to earth and enthusiastic guy I have ever met. We are all thinking about you. Maybe we all can find a way to put some funds together for any medical expenses he might run into...

Done. I sure hope they can move him ASAP, though now the bones might need to fuse for a week or two. Kiting caused my paralysis, but nowadays they can do a great deal in the acute phase of injuries at the right facility. When back home he needs to contact Pete Anderson, a great HG pilot, skier, and paraplegic in Park City; maybe they're already friends. Prayers to Jim and his family and friends.
