FWIW I work 40+ hours a week in Kincos, but when I'm freeskiing I wear real ski gloves - Hestras, Smartwools, Black Diamond, etc. - because they're better, more dexterous, warmer. IMO/IME Kincos are work gloves. And if they're too stiff, you're not working hard enough.

    /snark

To waterproof Kincos, turn oven to 200 degrees, when it's warm turn it off and put the gloves in it for 10 minutes. Take 'em out, put 'em on, do the hand-washing thing with Snow Seal for a couple minutes. Then set the gloves aside until yer ready to use 'em.

    Cooking Kinco Gloves...

See now I don’t even bother with other gloves any more. Too spendy and not durable enough. I do have big burly Hestras for COLD weather but I rarely need them.

Maybe, but there always seems to be a tube or tin of it in the patrol locker room that I can help myself to.

No, SnoSeal is not garbage. It was state of the art 80 years ago when Ome Daiber invented it. But Obenauf's LP is way better.

I like Hubberd's better than Obenhuaf's it's less sticky and the ingredients are very similar.

Sno-seal probably not the best for gloves, although it's what I use. The point of sno-seal for mountaineering boots was that it didn't soften the leather. With gloves, soft is nice. I'm thinking I might give that Oberwhatever stuff a try, since it contains oil. Oil worked to soften baseball gloves back in the day.

Straight up bee’s wax is good. I like Huberd’s Shoe Grease myself.

just got a new pair of leather ski gloves. Is it necessary to apply a beeswax waterproofing grease prior to first use?

I’ve had good results with this.

No heat involved, just apply and buff with a rag.

Gloves aren’t as stiff as my snow sealed ones. I need to reapply once a season in the PNW but it takes only a few minutes.
