Ah, it was hard to tell but that makes sense for such a long ascent.
I ski 135 degree chutes switch to the road.

Yeah noticed he was using the MTN's for that one.

Looks like he may have skied/attempted to ski the Grand yesterday?

I would ski the mtn over shifts in no fall terrain.

The next day Grinch gave me an amusing summary of Rogers Pass closures. If there's an accident and no one dies, it will likely only be a 1-3 hour delay, but if someone dies then it's going to be at least 8 hours most likely. Stated as matter of fact because it happens so frequently! (Did I remember that correctly, Grinch?)

I think those mountains around Louise / Banff are some of the most aesthetically pleasing in the world. Interesting to see that it's actually a law to travel in at least a group of 4.

Cody - so on a steeper descent like this one, are you typically locking in your shift toes? (looked that way in the video)
Pretty much, although there was 2 smashed up semis on my way to the pass today and I skated right through with maybe 5 minutes at each.
Drifting though , that's a stellar effort by Cody. That's a long enough day without the crazy long drive he did. So good though. 2000ft vertical and probably 1700 continuous at about 45 degrees.
Ordered a pizza from the top of it after a 2 month dry cold spell. Thigh deep 18-20 turns before I needed to move 10 ft over to avoid the sluff. Top was thin snow over ice and rock and the fan was bullet proof. Can be a shooting gallery in there

Nice stuff. Really stoked on this series keep it up Cody!

Driving over Rogers Pass in a summer downpour and the 1 west of Revelstoke at night in winter with crazy truckers were some harrowing drives. That brought back some memories...

Well yeah, why would anyone want to huff extra weight for 26k? I mean, I would if I anticipated skiing a couloir in a super fast, Super-G, "crack" style way because then I would want the releasability of a Shift in case of an unintended high-speed tomahawk. But for slow, steep, ski-mountaineer style descent, then the weight benefits of an MTN become beneficial for the hike up and locked out toes beneficial because it's steep and you're going slow as molasses. Releasability is then not necessarily a factor you need to have in those situations.

I'm really enjoying this series. Question: Who sets the boot pack when Rubens isn't around?

This is a question I'd rather not find the answer to.

Use the socks on the coldest of days. Forget what brand. They're terrible socks but the help when it's -20 out and your feet are buried in snow all day.

This was always my issue with hotronics, but I tried the socks and they didn't cut it for me.

The only thing I can do with touring boots is boot gloves, and maybe disposable heat packs if my touring boots are loose enough for that.

I can only use hotronics in my alpine boots, they work well in that respect.

I use the socks in my various touring boots, if needed. It takes the edge off.

Shit, if they don't work in touring boots, I doubt they would work well in my tele boots. Was thinking of getting them,, but...

One of the better episodes so far IMO, although they've all been good. Really is crazy that you just happened to see that guy falling down central at the exact time you had a view of it.
