^^^ All very true.
Except for the crowding. It is night and day over last season.

Isn’t Pajarito on the same pass as AZ snowbowl, Purgatory, and Sipapu ( they’re all owned by the same guy). Also isn’t that place tiny?

A lot of people complaining on the hill and and online, but I wonder how much the powers that be hear it. Probably not all that much.
Back in early December I rode the lift with the new Alta GM and he probably used the phrase “skier experience” 10 times when I asked him about Grizzly Gulch. I’d love to ride with him again and pass on my opinion of Ikon.

Good a place to start as any.
I just sent an e-mail to the Big Sky GM as well as a link to this thread.
See if he responds but I will not post his response here as a quote.

Funny how the Utards on this thread are complaining about how LCC is overrun. Solitude has gone from a small manageable hill to a total shitshow in one season, and everyone knows it's because of Ikon.

How is funny we are complaining of crowds where we ski, isn't that what you are doing?

My question is are all these Ikon pass holders "new skiers" in the sense that Ikon is turning more people onto skiing, or are they simply regular skiers who are taken advantage of not being locked into a home mountain anymore?
Yeah, the increased crowds are undeniable, and becoming unbearable what with car traffic, parking, lift lines, tracked out trails, etc... by the time I've made it to my first lift, I'm fucking stressed man. I've never seen it so crowded, nor have I heard so many others lamenting the same. Where were all these people skiing before?
I'm an Ikon pass holder, and clearly part of the crowd/problem. It's enabled me to affordably chase powder instead of being stuck on one mountain. In this respect, I think Ikon benefits everyone, but at the expense of everyone. The blessing and the cruse.
As someone alluded to previously in this thread, with crowds being what they are now, powder days are quickly becoming powder hours... just like Squaw Valley two days ago. Ouch!

After reading the article in another thread (link below) about Vail Resorts' stock price taking its biggest hit ever last week, it's pretty clear to what the passes are all about: it's a war between Alta Terra and Vail for the season pass. If single day passes are too expensive, and only make up a small percentage (10-12%) of the revenue, the real game is in the season passes of which Vail sold 950,000!
Most people will only buy one season pass and I suspect the average person would opt for the pass with the most options spread out across the country... basically hedging their bet against all the weather variables.
Also in the article, the Vail executive mentioned in their shareholder meeting that even though this year got off to a great start weather-wise, it didn't matter because people were playing it safe, staying home, and not taking advantage of the early snowfall. So they play it safe and all pack in for January-February so they don't get burned.
Hedging bets geographically, and starting late for optimal weather, basically describes myself and everyone I know who bought the Ikon pass. At least the big resorts understand the forces driving our decisions.

Some of you people have to set the alarm an hour or two earlier if crowds are your problem.

I’ve thought about coming back but now it’s overrun!
Tried to go there last Wednesday and arrived at a completely road parked resort, had to pay cash and go to Brighton. (Where we barely got a spot.)
Went there Monday and it was actually fairly quiet. Small lines at terrain openings and walk on everywhere else.
We waited in a 25 minute lift line at Zoomer last weekend. Tram ops said they were running a 10 boat wait on MLK weekend. This weekend oughta be interesting.
I still have one day of my Wasatch benefits left, I’ll be there LDS for sure.

Maybe if they just started running lifts 24-7 they could spread people out better.

Part of the problem is that there are no more “secrets”... for the most part. The internet has made everybody a powder chaser and information that used to be hard to find is now being monetized.
