Bump. Anyone have car camping beta around Wolf Creek? We’re headed to Creede this Fri-Mon, then looking to camp Mon+Tue nights somewhere south on 160 before heading to Taos Wednesday. Looking for somewhere mellow: two toddlers and we’re in an Alltrack. Thanks!

not sure what you are planning only 3 to 4 hr drive to taos from creede. If you want to check out the San Luis valley I would recommend the Sand Dunes national park and the sand dunes hot springs. toddlers would enjoy both places. I think Medano creek is big with the toddlers. There is camping at the national park and Zapata falls but I do not know how crowded it is in summer. Dispersed camping is good in the Rio Grande NF. I like Embargo Creek area where there is dispersed and also campground at Cathedral. Penitente is other option. If you want to take the long drive. You can go through Summitville and Platoro. Plenty of dispersed camping higher elevation no rattlers and trees. South of 160 turn right off county road 15 when the pavement ends. That road takes you into Rio Grande NF where I think dispersed camping is allowed. Plenty of places to camp in Rio Grande NF. When yo head south on 285 I do not know of many options. I have stayed a couple of times out there but just pulling off and sleeping in the car type thing. There may be some places close to the river I do not know. Going over Wolf Creek pass to Pagosa is another thing. Figure out a plan and can offer better suggestions.

I've camped at the Beaver Creek and Big Meadows Reservoir campgrounds off 160 near South Fork. Nice campgrounds. Lots of mellow hikes around both spots.

Awesome, thank you on those couple ideas. Trying to figure out a plan here at the last minute; we'd also considered heading into NM and trying to camp somewhere up on 64 above Tres Piedras - basically, no firm plan... Sand Dunes was our original idea, but now are wanting to stay up higher to have cooler temps (though Sand Dunes is now looking like 70-80s those days).

Hopewell Lake ? It's up on the pass above Tres Piedras on 64 and there's a campground there. It's beautiful.

Looking like a short summer ski season around the San Juans. Skied Alta Lakes on June 14th and Gold King Basin on the 16th...both behind a few weeks than last year. Headed out Sunday for a Fathers Day morning mission but looking thin after I leave for two weeks and return for July 4th.

I'll add a little SJ stoke from last week (6/10). Brother and I hit Sneffels, from north side, up Snake. Climbed it, but just too frozen and runneled to ski, so skied down upper col and then the north side of lavender col back into blaine basin (although had to down hike 200-300' of rocks as the top was melted out). But still a great day and need to get back there when Snake is in better ski shape

Any folks attending 4SAW this weekend up in Silverton? Anyone from Albuquerque attending? If so, interested in car pooling from ABQ?

Wolfy's fixin' to open this weekend. Reporting sixteen inches from recent storm. Looked pretty boney when I drove by earlier today.

Wolf Creek was...DEEP today. Tomorrow will be riduculous.

I know a lot of Mags must have been there as everyone I rode with today was from Colorado, but only 2 chairs of locals.

I'm headed back to Telluride the next two weekends and then out until July 31st when I drive the family car back to CA. I haven't hit Imogene Pass yet but Alta Lakes is so damn fun given how little hiking is required.

Not much left out in the San Juans. I went out to Alta Lakes on Monday to hit my usual chute and a bit burned out in the middle.

On July 5th, I rolled the dice on a partly cloudy morning and hiked up Silver Chute as far as I could…as luck would have it, as soon as I stepped into my bindings, storm clouds engulfed my line and ended up skiing in the rain on the descent.
