A Howling Cosmic Signal Came From a Faraway Galaxy

Fast Radio Burst Astronomers get closer to understanding one of the most perplexing phenomena in the universe.

With the cosmic coordinates in hand, the researchers wrangled other telescopes around the world to check out that spot. Sure enough, they found something: a galaxy, slightly smaller than our own, about 4 billion light-years away. This particular FRB, named 180924, for the date of its discovery, erupted from this distant place long, long before a curious civilization built the technology to find it.

Bannister explains the precision of the discovery this way: “It’s like looking at the Earth from the moon and not only knowing what house a person lived in, but what chair they were sitting in at the dining-room table.”

... This is only the second time astronomers have managed to pinpoint the source of one of these signals. The other FRB, known as 121102, is regarded as quite special in the field; it’s the rare signal that has been known to appear more than once, always from the same bit of sky—sometimes several times in less than a minute. Astronomers traced its source to a galaxy about 3 billion light-years away last year.
    3 Billion light years!

Jesus Christ that's a long way.

I don't know, I've been known to wait and hope for an item to go on sale at 40%, so I gues Im just as guilty as those Christians praying and hoping for salvation.

Interesting. People seeking spiritual advice from an Australian rock star:

I'm not as good at this parable thing as my mentor. Give me some time. If you need to believe all to believe any I'd call that ultra conservative.

As for you keeping score, IDGAF other than a gauge of my ability to communicate to conservative minds.

Outside of the NAPA store I complimented a boomer guy a little younger than I about his sweet black pickup. He said "Thank's, like your hat too." I said "Well, I'll tell you a secret. I'm really a liberal as defined by the dictionary and not by Fox News and I just filed for my Closed Carry. I was an NRA member once but now I wear this hat to go under cover to hear what the other side is saying." He said he didn't believe me. I said with a smile, "Look, I'm really just busting your balls, and if we can't bust each others balls at a time like this we'll be shooting at each other soon." He shook my hand and said his name was Tim. I shook his and I told him my name.

It was my first time out with the hat. A test drive. I' need to work on my lines. We'll see how it goes. I have a Bernie hat.

What fun is there in that? Where's the learning? I guess I've liked to tickle tigers my whole life. But not every tiger and not every day.
