"Roller skis." WTH??
This is a thing, huh? I saw someone cruising around on what looked like a long ski-esque roller blade type contraption. My first thought was, this person looked REALLY dorky. Total gaper.
But then I wondered, could this actually be good off season training.
Now- and don't laugh at me- I'm seriously considering getting a pair. So I'm wondering if anyone has any experience or reccomendations.

Haha, we have the Olympic training center here, and those guys roller ski all over the place all summer long. It looks awful

For Nordic skate skiing, it's great training. Just don't crash on them. Sass_ski has come home all fucking tore up from crashing at 20mph on hers. In shorts. No thanks.

The local high school nordic team skates these up the hill I live on all the time. Looks goofy AF but is good training I guess.

Roller skis for XC ski training have been around for decades. They make them for classic and skate. (Classic roller skis are longer, have freewheel pawls and come in 2-wheel and 3-wheel configurations.) Several of our Nord racer friends spend hundreds of hours on roller skis each off season.

If you are a competitive nordic skier then yes...alpine, not so much...not to say that doing it would hurt your alpine training...but you gotta buy nordic equipment...boots, bindings poles, THEN the roller skis, the cost of which would more likely go to some new alpine boards etc. Go ride your bike instead.

I assure you, cost is not an issue.

Then by all means, get after it!
Did you ever buy a Nordic Trak? These are better....

I have a pair I found at a consignment shop for $30. I mounted them with 3-pins and use my old soft leather tele boots. It actually is a pretty good workout but fuck going down hills and you better pray that there isn't much gravel on your route.
And I can also attest that drunk roller skiing around Burning Man in your underwear is a great way to meet people."Great barbecue makes you want to slap your granny up the side of her head." - Southern Saying

I had a roommate on the Nordic team in college who had a pair. After a few too many beers, I thought it would be fun to take them for a spin. I didn't make it a half a block before the asphalt put the cheese grater to my leg and arm. Would not recommend!

I wonder if they're smoking ciggies on the lift and finishing off their training with a beer?

Please share your efforts, seeing as this seems to be a "Get Fit" endeavor, before and after stats are required...
btw, if you think riding a bike is Too Hard, nordic is harder, and hills are pretty much unavoidable

I find it funny how people get all condemnatory about people doing some sport and how they look. Like you guys look SOO coool in your brightly colored plastic pants and coats and phat skis and helmets with go-pros on the top. You don't look like dorks, no!
Looks like a good workout.
