from GW Fire Chief this a.m.
"A section of the Norse Peak fire is currently moving north on Dalles Ridge. The general weather flow is still favorable, but the fire is slowly backing down the ridge towards 410, much like what is happening at the WRRA cabins near Crystal Mountain Boulevard. This is still a ground fire, and still well above the Dalles cabins. It is approximately 3 miles from the Villages.
The Sawmill fire is still quite a distance to the east of Greenwater, and has not moved significantly toward our community.
In developing our plan for Greenwater, we divided the valley into 4 areas:
Area 1: From Federation State Park eastbound SR 410 to Forest Service Road 70 is at fire danger advisory level 0.
Area 2: Forest service Rd 70 eastbound SR 410 to Forest Service road 73 is at fire danger advisory level 1 .
Area 3: Forest service Rd 73 eastbound SR 410 to FS 7160 (Ranger Creek) is at fire danger advisory level 2.
Area 4: FS 7160 eastbound to Crystal Mountain Blvd to include the Crystal Mountain resort is at fire danger advisory level 3.
During planning, points on the map are identified that are referred to as “Management Action Points” for each area. When the fire reaches that point, certain actions are taken, or notifications are made. I was asked to designate these points and determine the different areas that they will pertain to. I will tell you that I have been quite conservative in establishing the action points for our community. My priority is to ensure that you are given sufficient time to safely make and implement a plan if the fire behavior changes. Each Area has designated action points. Area 1, 5 miles farther north, will essentially be one notification level behind Area 2, as regards the Norse Peak fire. Area 1 is well outside the containment line for the fire, which is essentially SR 410 and the 70 road, while Area 2 is directly adjacent to it. The Ranch, while across the river, is included in this due to the single access point being potentially vulnerable.
If the fire continues to back down the ridge, it is quite possible that we may reach a Level 2 notification for Area 2. In this case, livestock should be evacuated. My understanding is that the horses in the Ranch have already been moved. At Level 2 you should assemble your evacuation kit and be prepared to leave on short notice. This would also be considered the Level 3 notification point for Area 3, which includes the Dalles cabins, Camp Shepard, and Camp Berachah. Again, I have set this point very conservatively to allow time for you to prepare.

No, I think the rule is skiing within the same elevation band as the ski areas or at least the upper reaches of the Washington or Chinook pass.
