They said it blew up yesterday. Don’t know what the winds were like then, but if they got the wind we got up here today, no bueno at all.
I see no moisture over the next week.

The amount it grew today was impressive and scary. Pretty much watched it blow up during a run today.

    From around noon in Longmont...

Some amazing terrain burning, and it’s a tinder box up there. Can’t believe how far east it has come.

Hot west winds were ripping all night last night and into today. The smoke plume was unusually big first thing this morning when it had been almost non-existent most mornings lately. Hopefully this evening's cold front made it that far up into the mountains to at least get some cold, humid air and some lighter east winds up there.

I commute north on I-25 from Denver to the Berthoud exit and driving towards that plume this morning was absolutely wild. Looked like fucking armageddon up ahead.

In Niwot and into Longmont tonight, we actually had a few light showers... so hopefully that helped a tiny bit.

Fire made a massive run yesterday, the combination of a mountain wave and a small cold front caused sustained 30-50mph winds with gust in the 70s for about 12 hours. They were unable to fly all day, and a lot of resources needed to be moved from the north edge to the southern front of the fire, which is a long way.

Here are some pictures from our house just behind Horsetooth reservoir. We, and a lot of other people were evacuated very quickly. Homes were for sure lost to the west of us. Winds seemed to die down last night and it’s cold with some humidity. Waiting for an update, but really hoping they were able to hold CR 27 as a line. If not a lot more homes will be in the direct path very soon.

The Cameron Peak Fire spread 17 MILES eastward yesterday in the high winds.

It's now at 164,000 acres, so substantially larger than the Pine Gulch or Hayman fires, which were both under 140k acres. Having a massive wildfire raging this late in the season, is new territory for us. Prior to this summer, something like 19 out of the 20 largest fires in state history all started in late May or early June after drought winters. This is the first summer where we've had massive wildfires start and continue to burn later in the summer/fall as a result of a non-existent monsoon season. Hopefully this isn't the start of a new trend.

It was 134k acres on Tuesday. So it burned around 30k acres in the last day or so

I thought the Decker fire South of Salida last October was weird. That stayed under 10K acres though.

Quite a sunset from the Fraser valley last night. More wind expected today. Best wishes and gratitude to those on the frontline of Cameron Peak fire and all the rest.

^^^ That was an amazing sunset and smoke column combination last night. That East Troublesome Fire is growing quickly. We really need a break in the weather. Even if it is just calmer and more humid days.

CP taking a hard right today, they just put areas well south of Big Thompson Canyon under voluntary evac. Could make a run towards Estes too. Hell at this rate it'll be halfway to Lyons next week. Viz was under a mile in the PRB before it got dark. Vibes to all affected and fighting this thing...hey how about some moisture in the forecast or maybe winds under 70mph?

Edit - jpc hope you and your neighbors homes survived.

Another cold front hits the front range this afternoon/tonight and some possible moisture with it tomorrow morning. Looks to only be shallow upslope, though. The jet should move east a bit, too, but the uppers are still rocking.

Gusts to 98mph on Berthoud pass last night.

The size of that fire is hard to even imagine. It's 35 Vails. Or for me, 121 Crested Buttes. And counting.

Crazy that the Williams Fork fire has burned all the way up to Jones Pass treeline.

This might be a new one, fuck. Looking east from Erie, it appears to be in the Ward - Jamestown area.
