    1. I open the wrapper and check the bevel on every ski, as sometimes any ski from any factor might need a quick adjustment to fix small imperfections from the factory tune.

    2. Most skis from any/every factory have pretty rough bevelling outside the effective edge area (ie the rocker/taper areas are not typically bevelled nor polished to the same level as the effective edge is). As such, on every HL ski, I open the wrapper and hand tune the extremities to a 1.5deg bevel for the base edge and 2deg side bevel from the widepoint of the ski to the very end. On my personal skis, FWIW, I run well more than 1.5 base in these areas for tokyo drift action.

    3. I go though and put a finish polish on the base edge on every ski, and hit the edges with a gummi to ensure no burrs the entire length. I do not detune the tips/tails, as they very rarely need it if the edges are properly prepared (1&2 above).

Hope that this quick synopsis is helpful, if folks like the tune and want to keep it going into the future... here is the instructions for your shop!
That was what I was fishing for. Thanks for that man!

    Marshall,

Do you have any demos? I'm in SLC a couple times over the next month and interested in the R99. It sounds a lot like what I'm looking for, but would love to try them before dropping the cash on a pair. If not (I know this is a low overhead operation), no worries.

Of everything I have skied, I think that they are most like the old green Katanas (which are awesome!) but the R120 AM have a bit more bite to the tail (a good thing!). I was originally slated for the Comp build but the AM has plenty of backbone, in the 120 at least. If you’re on the fence, git sum. Thanks Marshall, I can’t think of a better ski for Big Sky today!
I've been watching the R120 from afar. Seems like it could be a great replacement for my beloved OG Bodacious. If I was still skiing Snowbird on the regular, I'd have already bought a pair. I'll admit it though, the pink doesn't do it for me

Hah and I thought that was too obscure to ask. Thanks this rocks. 1X and SoulSkier too. Trigger pulled. Me and Schwerty will be rocking the village with the same sticks now. Best of luck on your venture Marshall and give a holler when you are up Jackson way

I think this would make a killer 2 min youtube video. Much better than any of the tuning videos out there right now.

I'm the same on watching the R120 from afar, but the opposite on the color... the pink absolutely does it for me.

my view... if you are a good enough skier to need/want metal laminiate 120mm skis... you are a good enough skier to rock bright pink skis with pride. Plus pink is helpful if you throw a shoe on a pow day. Bright = much easier to locate. haha

I was with full trucker at monarch after a few consecutive days of dumping, like 40-50" the morning we got there. He ejected, and we needed people on the lift above us to yell directions and steer him back to his skis.

@asp, im terrible at describing skis. They're fun, lively, 50/50 flex is dialed, rail turns. Slightly longer radius compared to my usual no fresh snow skis. And, made with love by a mag. I hope Marshal sells a million of these.

Super stoked to get on the 50/50 R99 Marshal just shipped me. We are going into the exact conditions for them. Hopefully they show by friday so I can mount them up and give ‘em a rip! Can’t wait to also compare these to my comp build once they arrive in January.

I've been considering a wider soft snow ski for a while now, so I stopped watching from afar and pulled the trigger on the R120s. On the hunt for a pair of Shifts to mount them with, and I'll post thoughts when I get these Bad Larry's on snow.

My 188 R99 AMs arrived yesterday. I originally had a pair of the Comp build on order. However at 6'1 165 I started to think those would've been overkill after reading SoulSkier and Marshal's descriptions. Huge props to Marshall for going back and forth with me over email as I waffled between builds and for swapping me out. Very much appreciated.

The finish on these skis is impeccable. The camber looks dialed. The stiffness seems spot on from a hand flex perspective. My pair has about 3.5mm camber underfoot. I also think the topsheet looks way better in person than on the website. Cannot wait to mount these and get them on snow.

Marshal; you have my attention, finally. Between hoarhey urging you to PM, to which I regrettably never responded, and your recent appearance on the Blister podcast - I'm very curious.

I've been searching for a narrower all-mountain ripstick. After picking up a minty set of Moment Belafontes last season; I'm reminded of how much fun a modern, forward-driven, charging ski can be in marginal conditions. In the past, I skied (and loves) the Dynastar Legend Pro XXL, and the ON3P Wrenegade before they split the line into several sizes.

While I do enjoy funshapes - I currently ride a Moment Deathwish for storm days and small accumulations, ON3P BillyGoats for most big days, and on old pair of 4FRNT Renegades for the really deep days - a narrow charger seems like a hole that needs to be filled in the quiver.

In browsing the site, it seems to be a toss-up between the R99 and R88. I also have a pair of Moment Tahoes that come in at 94mm underfoot but aren't the chargers that your Race Room skis would be. The R99 maybe seems to be the right choice for out west. So I guess it's a question of which construction and in which length?

Am I thinking that the AM build in the 182 length is the jam? I'm not skiing 40 days at Big Sky anymore, so big, long, missiles do hamper the tighter, shorter steeps we have here in the PNWet. Am I tracking right on that?

What's the difference between the layups?
