Been following it closely. I fish the Merced. I've spent a lot of time in the area. We almost went up that canyon one day to fish the south fork, but the water was low.

So far they're thinking toxic algae bloom or mine gasses. I've heard the lightening theory too, but there were thunderstorms the day before, but they not that day.

It's just extremely odd. So odd that I'm leaning towards something more sinister.

I've got to think intentional poisoning has still got to be the odds on favorite.

Súper weird. Initially thought toxic algae which sort of makes sense but seems like they weren’t able to confirm a bloom so now have to wait for autopsy blood tox. I’m currently putting my money on murder suicide

The toxic algae thing seems suspect to me since the dog and baby also died. Carbon monoxide would be a possibility, but seems odd.

How the hell could that happen, people dying on the spot with algae? Not familiar with that stuff.
Would think that there would be corpses littered all around the states if that stuff would be that lethal?

And carbon monoxide from mine shafts seeping above the ground?? I could understand that in some volcanically active areas, but old fashioned mine shafts?

The floggings will continue until morale improves.

    This is weird.

The dog too. Had to be something environmental.

    Or Aliens.

I agree that murder-suicide has to be the front runner at this point.

That one is strange. I'm sure the toxicology report will reveal it tho.

Just read about this nearby one - gunshots. But who is that creepy guy?

Dogs like water, and people swim with their babies. It would take very little exposure to cyanotoxins to kill a 1 y.o. Exposure can also occur through aerosols without any direct contact with contaminated water:

My money says there's no foul play here, like that woman who was missing in Zion for weeks and everyone was certain she faked the whole thing.

Yeah, that does hurt. Moons ago, I remember thinking: "yeah, I'm into older women" slow to realize these older women were, in fact, much younger than me. I'm a moran but society is cruel.

Great, now Yvon Chouinard is going to have to walk back his Jackson Hole boycott.

Cyanotoxins are not to be fucked with. ATX is particularly nasty.

Lethal concentrations of methane, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide are common hazards in abandoned mines. Even in the absence of acute toxicity these gases are all heavier than air and can create low-oxygen environments through displacement.

I'm also guessing it was hot as balls in that area at the time. A sub-lethal accidental poisoning event could easily become lethal when combined with heat stress.
