Handyman in California are not required to be licensed or bonded. And yes he is insured
Woah, haven’t heard JNCOs in a while. I had the preppiest pair of JNCO khakis. Very on-brand for 90s casual me.
Not underwear, guy. These mags got it.
Right? And if your Sambas didn’t have the flip over tongue were they even real?
Funny shit, youth style.
(Also, Z Cavaricci, wow. Blast from the past when I lived in Michigan).
No Skidz love in here?
I still call it The Jake.
Zcavaricci were the best pants I ever wore as a youth. Bomber. Wore them til they disintegrated
Was champion boxing gym stuff first? I feel like those were the only guys who still pulled it off when it wasn’t cool.
I still call it The Jake.
That’s my recollection. I think it first was popular at school around rocky 1 time
Fuck. I had to deal with Mom ironing patches on my jeans in the 70’s and 80’s. By the time wearing pants around your knees was popular in the 90’s, all I thought of the style was think that the next batch of summer field staff kids were gonna regret the blackfly season something awful.
Yep. They all got to wearing belts by their second shift. And most had workers compensation records for lost time due to not being able to sit down at the desk or in a vehicle for a couple days due to the fly bite welts that went from their ass crack to the middle of their back.
What state? Contractors should have good enough credit at suppliers to not require prepayment for materials. If you still have any doubts I would pay the supplier directly. I wouldn't be worried that he'd take the money and run--given his references, but he could have the materials delivered and then find out the supplier hadn't been paid because your money paid off the materials for his last job. And he potentially has the same worry about being paid. In CA at least as an unlicensed contractor doing a job over $500 he could lien you or sue you. So it comes down to trust on both sides. But you at least can protect yourself by paying for the materials.
I’d say word of mouth counts for everything with contractors. A guy who’s pulled off a job for someone I know is worth a lot more than someone who’s insured licensed and bonded with no recs. Sketchy, flaky, shit work will always suck. When’s the last time anyone heard about contractor problems actually getting resolved in any kind of meaningful way? I sure haven’t.

However many are in a shit ton.
Who makes the most affordable tie worth owning? A storefront in DC would be a plus but not necessary.
We have a major wedding to attend next weekend and my wife has changed her outfit plans as of last night. Already rushing to get her outfit altered and the baby’s pants hemmed, I am going to have to make do with a new tie. Never mind that I had my pieces of the puzzle in order for the last month, why wouldn’t we want to live this way?
People still wear ties?

I never had a tie worth owning. But I used to wear them daily until pretty recently and in my experience they should be viewed as disposable, like socks or shirts. After being tied and worn 20-50 times they start to wear out or you inevitably spill some coffee on them or whatever. Best value seemed to be inexpensive Amazon ties. Spend the money you’d spend on one tie “worth owning” and instead get half a dozen ties so you aren’t left scrambling at the last minute again.
Maybe somebody can tell the difference between wearing or looking at a cheap tie vs an expensive tie, but I sure never could. And the expensive ones didn’t last any longer either. The quality of the knot DOES make a difference and is instantly noticeable to anybody who wears ties, so that’s worth spending a minute on learning how to do well, along with a couple variations (full vs half Windsor, etc. and when each is appropriate).
YMMV, and I fully expect somebody to disagree with me re: the only tie worth owning.

There's no more Brooks Brothers. Mens Wearhouse and Jos. Bank are both affordable and between the White House and Dupont Circle, Mens Wearhouse has the Joseph Abboud stuff that's actually pretty nice.
edit: Mens Wearhouse also has the Michael Strahan line, I'm sure that's pretty special.
Yeah they imploded during the pandemic, most of their money was coming from the airport stores and they were highly leveraged and couldn't take the downturn.
Ouch. Hill staffers everywhere are crushed I’m sure
Huh, I’ve recently been getting emails from BB. Deleted before I click on them, but…
Maybe some PE firm swooped in cause they are still around
https://stores.brooksbrothers.com/
I did hear somebody bought the trademarks, maybe they got it back going? Not sure. THey were gone for a while at least.
edit: yeah the wiki says somebody called the Authentic Brands Group bought it and has committed to running 125 stores (425 previously). Whether there's one in DC I don't know but it's a natural market for their stuff, so probably.
Men’s wearhouse isn’t the same thing it was before either… I think they went banko not too long ago. I think wfh and more casual work environments also put a hurt on these guys.
