Sorry, did you not feel my stoke? Absolutely! That 6" went a long way! Skied like more than a foot. Wind helped it fill in and made it a little denser so not hitting any except the most obvious rocks. Hit east bowl, GS bowl, west face, got face shots somewhere on each run.
Are you off the lift yet--did they get it started?

Hard, blowing snow down in the valley on the east side right now. We were forecasted for rain, storm must be coming in a lot stronger than expected.

Arrived at kt around 8.20 and only a dozen people in line; let’s hope it’s a sign that the whole Bay Area didn’t descend on the few open lifts today.
Skiing solo, blue jacket, light blue pants and a pair of beat up Salomon rocker2.

So far there's a lot more wind than snow up at the lake. It's blowing hard, but actual snow is off and on, and there's maybe a couple-few inches depending on where you are.

TAHOE 22/23 -THE YEAR OF THE (t)RAM

Nvm, kt22 closed for the day. Off to resort chair!

Edit: line for shuttle was getting crazy behind me but resort chair itself is empty. Supposed to stay open till 2. Snowing lightly, hope it picks up soon. Alpine only has treelike cirlque spinning atm.

Edit2: … and closed for lightning, possibly for the day.

Edit 3: … and reopened again, just as I had skied back to my car. This would have indeed been a great day to have red dog up.

If only there was a chair on the ridge in between KT and resort chair that they could make snow on early season and run during storms. Oh well.

    So true...

Trying to stay positive over here (KT was great yesterday) but it's frustrating that this could have been the perfect pre-season for the new Red Dog chair, which is actually gonna be an amazing improvement.

And the fact that they tore the old one down so quickly and did nothing for so long this summer.

red dog doesn't have cables yet. no far east untlil red dog chairs hung. gondola was turning at AM thursday. It still needs a lot of work at the AM base, I'm guessing it will run before it's completely finished.

It's very hard to imagine they could finish Red Dog in a mere matter of weeks.

I hope it's ready as soon as safely possible, but you have to figure it's gonna take at least a couple/few weeks (or more).

It COULD have been great for pre-season. It will still be helpful with crowds, but now that KT is open, its best value for 22/23 (from my selfish perspective) has been missed.

I wish I could have been lapping Red Dog in stead of freezing my ass off on the upper mountain the last couple weeks. I've really enjoyed early season Red Dog the last few years.
    Still waiting...

Let's just say there are some very well-hydrated trees at lake level in Tahoe City.

Yeah the forecast for all snow at lake level was off, and I suspect that will also drop snow totals everywhere if the snow water ratio is lower than expected. None of this matters since we'll only be skiing the top 6" anyway

Finally turned to all snow an hour or two ago. Huge wet flakes slowly getting drier, but it's still 34 degrees.

I'm not complaining! We need the base, and we need it to stick instead of just sliding straight off. Once this is over we can start complaining about "Sierra cement"

I rarely hear this talked about in weather circles, but this happens so often in Carson/Gardnerville that there have to be frequent lake effect bands that set up. Maybe too brief to be picked up by radar? Couldn't have lasted more than 10 minutes. Been all rain down here since 11 AM (obviously), but raining hard.

3” of decent snow in our driveway this morning, and the snow that was falling wasn’t wet so we did a late morning tour on Luther that was excellent actually.

I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop. Sure enough, around 12 on our way home the precip became snotty.

    Tomorrow will be interesting

Fingers crossed the upper mountain doesn't open tomorrow and we can get it on Monday with clear skies (and less people).

My daughter and her boyfriend are planning to drive to Jackson Hole from the Bay Area tomorrow, if possible. Is there a less sketchy way to get across the Sierra than I-80? Or should they just wait until 80 re-opens?

50 is generally less sketchy but by no means a guarantee and it's longer so you may be giving up any gains

The winds on I80 alone would be enough to wait.
