I wish this photo was from that not-so-epic hill that we meet up at for afternoon laps…

Gotta ask, since I've never been to the bush and I'm visually challenged at the moment:

What are the mounds running down the center of the hill? Man made snow hoarding?

It's the bush "Ron Popeil" Set it and Forget it system of snowmaking where they run the tower guns 2-4 days without moving them. This creates a series of 10-30' "whales", as they like to call them. After they are allowed to drain the winch cat knocks them down during a double shift. Watching with binoculars is interesting when a range sized block of "snow" gets dislodged and tumbles down the slope.

They can be fun at times to ski, until they softened yesterday this batch was an icy frozen mess. We watched a jong tumble down the largest one on the left Thursday when they couldn't set an edge.

This season is just brutal...I'm having plenty of fun, but it's 2016 levels of torture. Maybe worse torture though, because there have been occasional glimmers of hope. I don't know what to blame it on, and obv there are much bigger problems going on in the world...but probably gotta just head back to Quebec for another round

Well it was a good run of pleasant skiing, going to drop my Fischer Motives off for a .5 / 3 tune today since that's where it looks like we're headed this week.

^^It's good to see the snow. Winter lives on, I hope.

The Plattekill Ski Patrol Fundraising Dinner 2022 was on for Saturday night and it was one of the best parties I've ever been to. The skiing was great, the band was killer (the whole band cops from NYC) and of course the torchlight parade at the end.

Yeah, this area actually survived the rain and sun fairly well yesterday, but last night's blow torch 55 degree winds ate almost everything, even a lot of the base ice.

To be fair, the ski patrol chicken dinner was catered by Brooks BBQ in Oneonta. Plattekill’s everyday fare is pretty good though, and not as outrageously priced as a lot of ski areas.
