On Peak 2 I skied down below a convexity, parked myself off to the side of the kill zone and told Peter to centrepunch the convexity. What could possibly go wrong?

Instructions to Dan. Try to look slutty and hit skiers left which is steeper but just a tad bit more exposed. Trust me....

Finished up Peak 2 as we saw a group who'd been helidropped skin off to Peak 3. We already knew there were tracks on Peak 3 from the day before and it was kind of nice to chill for a bit after the frenetic pace of the morning so we watched a conga line form on Peak 1 while we ate and replenished liquids. Then off we went for Peak 3. Nice views of our track on Peak 1 and also our route up the morning glacier which was getting used even in the solar affect of mid-afternoon. Also a classic view of Peak 1 and Peak 2 from the approach to Peak 3.

No tracks on Peak 3's glacier except a party before who'd taken skiers left

Afraid not as I was focused on getting on and off slopes quickly so as to not compromise the groups behind us. We lost count of people booting up Joffre side as it was not just Aussie but other lines which saw ascents.

    Nice shooting! Nice skiing too!

My only question is, are these rotated after the fact to make them look steeper? Seems like a rotation artifact, no?

    Which other ones were rotated?

Dan takes off and Yolo's down a section of this 1km wide glaciated face to our skiers left. Filip and Peter and I see a ramp a little to his right and we gut it

Instead of looking at the bottom of the frame look at the horizon. That looks horizontal to me. The rotation therefore must be to correct for the camera not being held horizontal.

    ^ this exactly.

unless you have a clinometer present in the viewfinder when shooting, it's pretty common the horizon isn't straight as you are standing on a slope. I pretty much always have to correct in post, but then crop the image so you don't get those artifacts.

Ha!! Another mystery solved for the great Inspector PG Clouseau up there.

Most cameras have a grid feature you can turn on - I find this helps immensely when taking pics on slopes. Either line up best you can with horizon or a tree. At least now PG knows about crop and rotate! The more you know.

I got a grid feature. But perched on a convexity with sluff around me, standing on a tilted slope, sunny af and looking thru a screen (RX100 doesn't have optical viewfinder) using the grid is one less thing I think about. Getting shots of my friends who've never skied these faces before, getting them onto the next slope ahead of the crowds behind us and keeping things tight and moving were more a priority,

Edit - I have PG on ignore. Highly recommended. Keeps insane ravings out of your feed.

The last third of the glacier descent gives us N facing pow and opportunities to do some serac jibbing. Fortunately the lakes on the exit are all still nicely frozen making for a quick run out on tired legs and lots of opportunities to see the lines in the sun as opposed to this morning's starlight

I think a localized wind event caused your camera to be tilted like that

Perhaps. Uncorrected, the mountains in the background look quite suitable. Why the angle needed to be corrected in post surprised me.

And that is why I thought it strange to see that one artifact.

Perhaps these are my insane ravings. Or, perhaps I noticed something and simply wanted to ask about it.

My browser has a protractor plugin. When I saw the artifact, I measured 3.3 degrees of correction. When I compared that photo to the one below it without a crop artifact, it measured *another* 2 degrees of rotation. So, +5 degrees of difference from photo 1 untouched to photo 2 below it (zoomed in). Just seemed not on the same horizon line.

My wind-research spills over into that field as well as many others. Ha ha

I just found it curious that the photo needed to be corrected in post when the mountains and angles looked just as good un-photoshopped.

It was just a question. I don't see what is insane about the observation.
