That's some serious distance and vert right there. The 10PM start might make even mallwalker a bit queasy. That's next-level early!

Was the 10pm start to avoid getting caught trespassing on private property?

Finally found the white courtesy phone.
Patrolling is one of the lowest paid professions.
And one of the more rewarding in many ways.
If one chooses it as a career one better be ready to be frugal in order to provide a retirement.
Thrift stores, no blow, campgrounds, or eating out. Cloth diapers, etc.
One errant avalauncher round is worth more than a day's wage.
Sure, ski areas could pay more and still have a good bottom line; they just don't need to. Always someone else to do your job.

btw a little bird whispered in my ear last night...
Something about the end of the Peruvian ridge today...

    Taylor Martin is a badass.
But looks like he skipped Flattop!
    Slacker...
Did a summer traverse years ago,
with a pm start on aforementioned private property.
Always thought ski photos above the smelter would be cool...

google earthed it looks like a great tour big push by that guy. I was told by someone that does these things that a night start enables you to take a nap during the day in your clothes. No need to carry a bag. But maybe it just fit his work schedule better.

You'd think minimizing turnover in your patrol staff would be a priority, but what the hell do I know. But, if paying shit wages to the people who make life-and-death decisions affecting thousands of your customers so that your P&L sheet looks 1% better isn't 'Merica in a nutshell I don't know what is.

Not only that, but also getting the employees who have the boots on their throats to defend the practice. Fucked on multiple levels.

You could apply this same quote to most fire departments. If I walk down the hall and look at the board of employees, I'll bet more than half have less than 3 years time. And the captains with all of the experience are hitting ability to retire.

Comma gate shut down at 1:30, sounds unlikely it opens tomorrow.

I chatted with a Bird patroller hanging out at the gate and it didnt sound like rope duckers...not sure why they shut it down other than wanting to keep traffic low. They did cross out the "Closes at..." line on the sign so maybe it's just gonna be a couple hours at a time. The patroller told me they wanted to get the terrain open more frequently but at least for a while they'd only open on the perfect high pressure blue bird days with no clouds no wind and max stability.

Did main to comma from the bird. Long hike, to long traverse for 20 skied out turns in comma. Still pretty fun seeing how it’s probably been a dozen years last time I skied it and that time was boiler plate avy debris.
