    East MF Coast 19/20.

Solid day at Smuggs. Snow to
push around, edgeable everything, lift lines long but the fixed grip dubs meant trails to ourselves. Heck, even Mrs
P cheated and took the chair to the top a few times. More terrain would be nice, though.

Saints & Liars at Higher Ground proved that VT beats Maine as Ghost of Paul Revere was simply sad version of Mumblers & Sons. We couldn’t take more than 3 cheese-ballads. They need to let the guy who plays lap steel and harp run the band.

    SoVT FTW.

Sloppy drive home in 2/3” of mixed precip.

Edit - almost forgot some winners today.

Ragged was surprisingly good today, considering how hard it poured last night. Although I now have some selfie-stick envy.

Shocking that was only his second DUI.

You'd think he might have had a bigger and better body of work leading up to this.

Would you classify the snow as frozen granular, packed powder, variable, or some other classification? I've heard you need to make reservations or is that just in case it's super busy.
As for the surface conditions, the two early sessions I went to had firm machine groomed corduroy. The seams between groomer passes were a little rough. After a little traffic, it skied like firm packed powder. As we approached closing time (10 pm) Friday night, there were some slick spots. Supposedly, they make snow every night.

You don’t need reservations, but I highly recommend buying in advance and going first thing in the morning (10 AM open). You don’t want to be there when it’s crowded as it’s really not worth it to wait in lift lines to ski there. From what I can tell, they only sell 50 advance tickets per time slot and limit the crowd to 500 people total. Considering there are only 39 chairs on the lift, the max capacity is 76 people “in the air”. Add another dozen on the hill and 20 in the corral... you probably don’t want to ski there with more than 200 other people (considering the beginner area/carpets too).

Then again, come summer, where else are you going to ski????

Did my AIARE 1 this weekend.

An incident featuring Rog (remember Rog?) was a cautionary case study in one of the classroom sessions. The thing read like one of his TGR posts. I chuckled... then remembered it could happen to anybody (though I like to think I wouldn't have been up there that day).

At least they were sensible and didn’t evacuate the place. They did shut down the chairlift. But, they spun up the poma instead to keep people skiing. The patroller explained to me that they didn’t want to risk having people suspended from the lift if there truly was a problem and the power went out.

The place is great Jerry entertainment. Especially when they were trying to ride the poma. Given the poma “track” is on the ski slope, it was super easy to just grab an empty platter after a Jerry fell off. Never had to wait in line!
I actually work for the GC here. I brought my skis in weeks before they opened right after they first started making snow and walked up to take what may of been the first ever indoor lap in north America.
