Targhee Bluegrass Fest fkna delivered!! High points were the funny Jeff Austin stories from his banjo player and Sam Bush. Sam’s Friday set was more trad/less rock than past Saturday night shows. Stringdusters lit up Saturday. Sleeper act was the Lil Smokies from Missoula. Had to chat with Mark O’Connor for fifteen minutes, class act and triple Grammy winner.

gotta say, wish i'd seen him sooner. great country rock with a laid back vibe, poignant lyrics, the good ones were better than i anticipated

I must have seen a better show then, it was a good 2 hours maybe a bit more. Yup great stories and damn if he isn't a helluva player. That was one of the better shows I've seen in a while.
So Jorma and Jack are coming through the area this week. One night is with Dave Mason and the next is with David Bromberg. I don't know which night to go to. First world problem...

^ ! My son turned me on to them a few years ago. Would have loved to have caught a show with him. Unfortunately dates don't work

Landed some free tix to Santana and The Doobie Bro's tonight. It's been 20 years since I've seen Carlos and never saw the Doobies. Should be fun, too bad it's at a shitty venue (PNC Arts Center in NJ).

Santana blew up his set at Jazz Fest in April. His wife on drums brought the fire, I enjoyed his new stuff much more than I expected. Enjoy!!

The CONCERT thread
Mrs. P and I have been volunteering at the Green Mountain Bluegrass and Roots Festival since Thursday.
I was working the campground and parking Thursday so I only caught the music peripherally.
Friday we were moved up to VIP and backstage access during Sam Bush’s set but the fun really started after our shift in the dance tent with Donna the Buffalo.
The late night set was hosted by Mipso. They brought out Chatham County Line, Lula Wiles, Rachel Bailman, and others.
Saturday afternoon included Lula Wiles’ awesome set.
Hawktail.
We headed home for a bit and came back for Mipso’s main stage set which ended just before the venue was evacuated due to thunder/lightning storms. We hunkered down in my buddy’s Westy that ended up being surrounded by other Westys.
After the storm passed there was a rainbow and the sunset was fantastic.
I was then assigned the backstage gate and was so close I barely could see Darrell Scott!
The view of the crowd from in front of the VIP section.
Oh and Jerry was there.
We aren’t working today but can’t wait to see Mandolin Orange later.
Most small festivals are looking for volunteers. You get a weekend pass and maybe an assignment with the best seats in the house. I highly recommend it.

Dude he crushed it again last night. That was the best show I've seen him play since 1986, about 15 shows since then but none in the last 15 years. He played a bunch of covers of bands that were at Woodstock, the Sly stuff was amazing, and for a few songs the Doobies came out and with 7 guitars, 3 horns, 2 keyboards and 6 percussionists it was pretty solid chaos Yup his wife and son are both pretty fantastic, he played a classical bit on the keys that was very well executed and she did a 5 minute drum solo that was right up there with any I've ever seen. The Doobie Bro's played a much better set than I was expecting but I did go into it with pretty low expectations, glad I did because it was that much better because it was so good.
