Percentages...do you understand them? We are about a month behind on run off at high elevation snow study plots. Here is an example: https://wcc.sc.egov.usda.gov/reportG...ToScreen=false

I suck at the internet, you get a link.

It is gonna be a shitshow if we get multiple days of 60ºF+ in a row or lots of high elevation rain or both. Can't wait to see the carnage.
Freeze thaw is getting real too. Lots of rockslides coming to a cliff near you.

    pretty much right

if I hear another person talk about flooding.......... wtf is wrong with people?
it's like it's going to magically warm up and all six feet of snow is going to all melt at once? Is that how it works?

So you think that in June the snowpack is going to magically stay frozen and locked up?

Here is end of May last year info if you need a reminder. It's a one year/summer reprieve when we really needed it. I'll take it.

Yeah, think we're skiing something off Indy tomorrow as well.

Re: Best seasons. This one is up there, but '07-'08 was probably better. This year isn't as unprecedented as everyone keeps thinking it is. We got married 6/18/11 and Kebler was still closed that year, too. Lots of good seasons. Except last year. Hope that doesn't happen again.

Can confirm that the avalanche debris in certain areas of CO are unprecedented. I could see how a fear of different melting runoff patterns could be seen as dangerous.

Yep, just outstanding. Even had a low flyover by an F16 that buzzed the peak then banked a quick U turn and shot down the front side and back up over Loveland Pass. Stunning.

Skiing is great right now this way, pass just opened, Ajax will be open for the weekend again. No bare spots down to 3 last week with perfect corn.

The skiing was so good for June, it might just be the best year ever.

Earlier in the year, midwinter, my group was crossing the most exposed part of our tour near Montezuma in somewhat touchy conditions. We heard a deep rumble and narrowly avoided shitting our pants. Then one of those F16s came right in over our heads. Pretty cool once we got our heart rates back down and untangled ourselves from the pine trees we were clutching.

But man, does that snow turn from nice corn to sketchy fast. Took a little too much time deciding where to ski and transitioning yesterday. The wind died down while we dawdled and we didn't take note. Ended up scrambling over rocks to get out of a line that would have skied great 30 minutes earlier, but had become both unpleasant and likely unsafe. North facing snow was worse than East, presumably because it hadn't quite turned to a summer snowpack on shadier spots.

That was the biggest surprise yesterday. In retrospect, your analysis about Northern exposure makes sense.

Up high on Torreys on a NW face was plenty frozen at noon.

I think that short of a good low altitude freeze significantly below treeline is about done. Gonna get high, no pun intended
