Yep, there would be a lot of snow here at 9500' if it had been 10 degrees colder. Even the Paradise camera at 10,500 or so looks like a rain/snow mix. On the brightside, it should be a nice thick base above treeline.

Looks like the cold front is making its way through. The weather station on Sunlight mountain near Glenwood has dropped 7 degrees(35 down to 28) in the last hour.

Looks like Joel was right about the cold front hitting I-70 between 8-9am.

edit: Rain just turned to snow here in El Jebel.

Only surprise was the amount of precip last night during the warm before the storm. I thought it would only sprinkle/flurry before the front, but more rain (below 10k) than I/we thought.

No problems though...snowing down to valley floors everywhere. Will likely clear up this afternoon once the front moves away, but mountain tops should still see some light snow, and few inches more snow keeps piling up along and north of I-70 through Wed sunrise.

A few 20" totals seems reasonable for storm total north of 70.

Radar of cold front coming through this AM:

There is a car in the pond off of Swan Mt. Road. Just got an alert that only a ski rack is visible. Must have slid off the road.

You know it's snowing when you start getting all the EC ans SC Alerts and emails from COTrip.org!!!

I'm at work so I can't speak for upvalley weather, but a definate lull in Eagle. Radar returns look like a dry slot along 70 east of Eagle. Tons of returns north and west...impressive radar.

^^ pretty typical, outside of the splash of winter every once in awhile, it should still be fairly dry and above normal temps in Nov. Not a bad thing, wouldn't mind seeing all this melt off instead of rotting. Although a DEEP winter that eventually bridges the instabilities would be sweet too.

So is Vail area hiking the place tomorrow or Berthoud.... I have to go to Vail to turn on a friend's heat in his place, just figuring if I should ski there somewhere... or head to berthoud..
Do I detect a lot of anger flowing around this place? Kind of like a pubescent volatility, some angst, a lot of I'm-sixteen-and-angry-at-my-father syndrome?

    fuck that noise.

snowing very lightly right now in West Vail.

Snowed 3-6" today on the Valley Floor. I'm not convinced there's enough snow to be worth hiking Vail, I'd like to see more than a foot here in West Vail. Personally, I'd like to see depths of 2-3' to ski down the main runs at Vail, my estimate is more like 1' at the top of Vail (would love to hear a report of more from someone who hiked it). If a foot or less of snow is enough for you, there's probably plenty of snow for hiking up Vail today.

    10/25 Cameron Pass

    Skied at Cameron Pass yesterday.

Joe Wright Snotel showed 16" of base, basically all of it new in the past 36 hours.

At the pass and up in the trees we found 16 - 30" of snow. The top 3" were total fluff, then heavier powder for 10-15", then a 1" faceted - surface hoar and/or super dry powder like layer then 0 - 12" of crusty snow to mud at the bottom.

There was a distinct settling on the surface hoar/crusty interface, especially when breaking trail uphill. I rate the danger as Considerable to High at above treeline. I'd say that with another foot or two with the high winds the danger is going to spike something serious and we'll see a short term High Avy condition.

The skiing was remarkably good, as mostly one's skis/board stayed in the top 6-10", and it was silky and delightfully carvable snow.

The last snow/precipitation event in West Vail was just after 4:00. Unfortunately, the last precipitation was Graupel... Pretty warm and slushy...

Drove to Denver from Summit and back today. The I70 shitshow was quite entertaining to say the least. Denver was sunny and windy all day. Didn't even snow much east of empire (yet?). Definitely refreshing after the opposite was the case all last year.

^^^yes....Vail Mountain received about 9"...the least of any area around it seems. It isn't exactly "warm"...32 when I got home and 28 now. About 3 or 4" on the ground made for a nice walk on the golf course with the dogs.

My birthday is tomorrow (don't give a shit at all) but my boss found out and asked if I wanted an office party or for the company to treat everyone to lunch. As a joke/smartass I said "give me the morning off to ski." Instead I was given the morning off on Tuesday and all day Wednesday. Looking to ski at A-Basin tomorrow, any idea how the pass and driving conditions will be? The winter storm warning is in effect until 4pm tomorrow...
