    Atua Review

    Ski: Fischer Atua 129/96/119
    L:186CM
    Radius: 21M
    All wood twin tip

    Me: 6' & 160lbs with a 16oz'er in hand.

Conditions: Knee to waist deep powder and tracked out pow - Crystal Mtn, WA

I picked these up off of e-bay last year, primarily based on a few rare positive reviews by the maggots. They know their skis. These were just amazing in the powder. I had no issues with float. The tips just seemed to want to come to the top. The bindings (Tyrolia) are mounted dead center and I really liked them at this point. They are a bit turny with the sidecut, yet just subtle movements made these skis sing. I dropped into waist deep untracked pow in Snorting Elk Bowl and they were awesome. Had so much fun I did the run twice more. Dropped into West Face and again these skis floated through the untracked pow with little effort. For my size and weight, they were a perfect match.

The skis are relatively light for there size, and I really liked how they handled the cut up pow. No worries, they just wanted to plow right through it. Moguls, were also not a problem. The ski will carve quite well, much better in moguls than the old Rossi B3's, IMHO. Nice medium flex through out the ski. Very surfy feeling in the pow. Coming down High Cambell in somewhat tracked out pow, they were effortless. They turn on a dime. No issues with tip deflection. Skiing these through the trees was sweet. The ski really gave me a lot of confidence. I had several folks in the lift line ask me who made the skis and commenting how much they liked the graphics. (I'm not a fan of the color, some kind of brownish color but I like the graphics.) Besides who's going to notice the graphics when they are buried in 20" of pow.

I'm not big into twin tips but I did find a great use for the rear tips in breaking trail backwards when going forward wore me out. They did a great job!

I didn't spend too much time on the groomers but these skis were absolutely at home carving in the soft snow. No idea about edge grip since it was a pow day. I'm really stoked that I got these skis and I will be kicking ass and taking names on the powder runs this winter with my Atuas. I can only imagine how sweet the Wateas are if the Fischer Atua is this much fun. They did a great job in my book.

nice review. very similar to my experiences with them.
other mags.. Think of these as a pocket rocket gone right. Wood core so it keeps life for more than a couple weeks, little bit wider, more torsional stiffness, medium-soft flex instead of soft. Everything you wanted the bleu noodles to be pretty much.

I ski the T-Stix 96, which is the same ski as the Atua and I love 'em. Just a fun, fun ski that seems to handle everything with aplomb...

so where would the atuas fall on the relative flex (recommmended ski and bindings list) 0-10 scale?

I would say they flex similar to the K2 Seth's. Maybe BakerBoy can give his opinion if he ever comes in from the powder fest in the N. Cascades.

stiffer than PRs, a wee bit softer than seths, although mine hve seen some days. Brand new, they are probably like a seth but settle in a fair bit. Lighter weight than my seths by far though.

Is the T-stix 96 any lighter or softer than the Atua (same dimensions)? I wonder only because the 96 is marketed as light and is sold for quite a bit less $. I guess I am looking for confirmation that they are indeed the same ski with a different topsheet.

well, I'm not positive about the difference, but I would look at it this way. The rossi scratch BC and sickbird are the exact same ski with a different topskin and base. identical otherwise. Now, look at how much less the sickbirds sell for. I think we decided tele skiers were not willing to pay as much? If you can get em both side by side, it should be a good indication. I bet they are the same ski.

these fischers (kehua-atua series), IMVHO, are much better than seths. lighter and with significantly more pop.

dead center on fischer's little mouting scale, or dead center on the ski, period.

I mounted mine between the ride and freeride mark or whatever, dead center of the two marks and they skied $$$, very akin to mounting a seth vicious +3 (really +1 since the scale was off)

Right between the freeride and ride marks on the ski. Same as where 300hp has his mounted. That's the way they came when I got them and I guess I lucked out with the mounting point.
