Found surprisingly deep snow up in Garnet yesterday, bottomless until about the last face above the lake. Turned away from the SW couloir when we were nearly at the saddle due to bad visibility and more snow than expected. Also traversed across some really good looking skiing after getting sucked into the wrong skin track down low.

I go through JH Adventure rentals once or twice a year when my jong friends from back East come out.

I usually ask for a local deal, and it either shows up as getting one of the sweet RMK pros for the base trail sled rate, or a 10% off discount. Seems to vary from time to time.

Last year it ran us about 160 a head plus gas including renting their Surburban to cart around my drunk friends / 4 place trailer to and from the trailhead.

Don't get stuck. My buddies girl did a few years back and it wasn't cheap to have them come out and haul it out of the 30 foot ravine she managed to get it stuck in. That is where they make their money I think.

    B-Roll shot 2/22

Kept hearing the words "best day of the season" tossed around today. It was fun.. Interesting winds last night. Powder Reserve was C+ at best, Edelweiss was a strong B+ and our last lap down to the car... well that took the cake...

I highly doubt they like "sled recovery". I'm sure its a giant pain for them.

I'm new to the sled game. I get stuck at least 5-10x every time I go.... I say you go get stuck. Plan on it. Just don't be stupid. (and do the whole "I wonder what's down at the bottom of that drainage" game.) Heli recovery...that is expensive.

    "best of the season"? hmmm.

Beautiful day, weatherwise. Snow was good but not epic. I was first into Granite this morning (ABC?) after the recent small storm; it was a lot of windboard and surprisingly hardpacked at the choke/crux. Later in the day, Four Shadows was in great condition.

^found some good snow back there this weekend. Last lap of the day it was starting to look a little tracked, but still softer than what we have been skiing in the easy hiking realm.

It's illegal but they poach it every year or so. Probably NOT the Teton Valley locals, who are generally pretty respectful, but Rexburg/ IF sledders, at least that is who it has been in the past. If you see them in there, try and grab their registration digits/ take a quick photo and send it to the Teton Basin Ranger District.

Pretty sure its not illegal? (not that I'd do it but from the maps I have its 100% okay...) http://www.tetonvalleynews.net/news/...9bb2963f4.html Seems to imply its legal but highly frowned upon...

If you look closely here: http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_...rdb5407124.pdf (takes forever to load)

    The corridor is designated "A",

    OVER-SNOW MOTORIZED VEHICLES
    CLOSED
    Except on designated routes

So, yes, up in the Canyons it is "C" legal only if you get there from the drainage divide, but illegal to come in from the road corridor.

In my scenario it was a stuck, then she floored in to get in un stuck, then jonged it into a ravine 5 seconds later. Basically my point was don't go full redneck and get it REALLY stuck.

    http://mtnweekly.com/sports/snowboar...rt-day-1-recap

    Village was riding great 2/24/15.

Seems some people in our community may be jaded? It was an honor to be able to ride the Tram again.. Thanks Rob!
