Jackson Hole Roll Call Winter 14/15

Thanks for the support crew! Media310, no hard feelings bud. Your sarcasm is a waste of energy but I couldn't expect any less from ya

That wasn't me on pucker yesterday but we did find some sporty conditions on togwotee yesterday. Check out the BT Avalanche event map for details.

    Be well everybody! Happy Friday!

If this thread is anything like the WB thread, the amount of bitching and arguing going on would indicate that the conditions suck. Anyone got an update on how the reported 31" of snow is skiing? Is it really that bad?

the 31" skied awesome. And it was super bizarre to ski spring slush less than 24 hours afterwards at elevation. This is the balmest February I've ever experienced.

Im with Franz. Skiing was so weird to day, wind blown crust to knee deep fluff to debris field to slush all in one run. 24 hours after, it was still skiing nice.

We have all made mistakes. I learned a nice lesson in sluff management this afternoon, was able to dig in my edges and self arrest. Had pucker not ripped off, we probably would have given No Shadows or 4 Shadows a shot today. Seeing Pucker today was a stark reminder that even with our pow frieze, the white dragon is always lurking.

Went to a place that I know to be cold & shady today. It was shady, but it wasn't cold.

Some powder, but widespread damp snow surface & pinwheels in N facing old growth 8,000'-9,000'.

I'll likely be traveling alone and would love to meet up with people to ski in-bounds or out. I will be ready to sleep in my car but would greatly appreciate any couch/floor space in Alta/Driggs or Jackson. I will be traveling with a solid collection of California beer that I will happily share. snapt can vouch for me, and while he has offered his place in Idaho Falls, I'd like to be closer to the resort to avoid 3+ hours of round trip driving each day. Appreciate the consideration. Thanks for stealing all of the snow.
Frush is a good dude, strong skier, and has great taste in beer. Somebody help him out!

    A) I'm from Colorado.
    B) I wish I had a trust fund - but I have worked pretty hard. Thanks for the compliment on my financial success in life? (though I'd suggest you revamp your indication of "trust funder" or "financial success" as I'm far from it)
    C) How is the girl I date remotely part of this conversation? Oh, and your ex is rad. I did not give her mono.
    D) SuperGaper is one of the nicest dudes you'll ever meet.

Just apologize dude. Learn something. I too say stupid shit. The difference is I try my damnest to come back and say "hey dudes, I was wrong, my bad". That's part of being a man - knowing when you are wrong and/or have something to learn and acting accordingly...not some delusional child-like douche.

    Just my $0.02.

Very interesting reading. On a similar note, I've seen a lot of articles in the NYT and other papers recently about technology that is being developed to suck the carbon out of the air.

Interesting stuff and kind of what I imagined I was seeing anecdotally, if only because of the huge difference in conditions and temps on any given day there from top to bottom.

Interestingly the trend line is pointing toward more snowfall (total) at upper elevations and less at lower...this was surprising to me. In the best way possible...

So while the snow may end up getting temperature effected more quickly, there is more precip to go around...(up high)

For an out of season + non confrontational topic, there is the discussion regarding summer trails in the Greater Snow King Area at the library tonight, 5:30-7:30.

Also of note, I judged the jr freeskiing comps at JH / GT the last two weekends and the majority of the 12-14 yr olds ski better than most of us and are far more polite.

I watched some of the kids at JH and they were ripping in awful conditions. My whole body hurt watching them take drops to teeth chattering snow.
