I never really stopped to think about it. I just went; "Hey! maybe I'll have to treat these like my dad used to do skis when I was an evil little tyke..."
I would not be surprised if any or all of those options were found to be superior.
That being said, tar smells nice.

Hard to get good glide on P.U or epoxy. Tar is your friend.

Wood ski bottoms were prepped with a coating of a pine tar with the consistency of maple syrup. Brush it on, heat without burning with a torch and wipe off ALL the excess. Cool and rub on and polish (not iron!!) your wax of the day. The tar seals and will hold wax. I've read that they sell the same product called Stockholm tar to seal horses hooves at horsey stores.
A few people feel the rain. Most people just get wet.

Not yet. I'm working in the shop over winter break so I will try to get them mounted up with something in December.
Thanks for bumping, forgot about this thread!

Morning everyone!
Someone on the waterskiing forum that I was asking for some advice on a couple of years ago stumbled upon this rather magnificent picture, and I thought it was worth sharing here.
I particularly like how similar they look to my Jobes, I wonder if they are a slightly earlier/later model of mine, just with the name scrubbed off. Very interesting.
Just as an update, I broke my shoulder at Christmas and haven't been skiing nearly as much as I'd have liked to this winter, and snow conditions have been pretty bloody terrible in my part of the Alps for the most part this year, so big fat powder skis haven't really been the tool of choice anyway. But the winter isn't over yet, hopefully I'll get at least one day on the Jobes before the summer starts again...

Oh, righto, they are a totally-different legitimate company then? For some reason I had assumed this monoski was a similar business model to Rax Skis, just chopping bits off of other skis and re-selling them as a new product. I didn't even look into it. Thanks for the insight!

If forgot my pair of waterskis at home this winter, still binderless though. Otherwise I can think of a couple days which would have been perfect for a maiden voyage.
