Will Brighton beat Utah's earliest opening?
Sheesh. A-Basin had their earliest opening in their 61-year history more than a week ago on the 10th (that also made it the first to open in North America this year).
Utah's earliest opener ever occurred October 29th, 2004. The conditions in the Cottonwoods already look good enough to open even earlier this year. Anyone know if they're making plans?

If they can I hope they do... I don't think UDOT was even plowing the road when they opened on 10/29/2004.
I told you to tell them
you was in a sanitarium, not sanitation.

Just FYI, A-basin has only been making snow for a couple years now.
Loveland (I believe) has the longest track record in CO for man made - The only ski area in CO that had SM in place during (and prior to) the dreaded '76 drought year. After that year *most* the others subscribed.

In an email today from Ski Utah Solitude is looking at a Nov. 16 opening date.
I feeling the ants doing the fun time dance inside.
Feeling a bit nervous about the knee still, the mind is messing with me.

Yeah, but Buzz, you can ignore the Brighton and Snowbird opening dates. They almost always open earlier than they post on Ski Utah.
Solly used to be the same way; they used to publicly state a date and then beat it by a couple of weeks, but ever since they turned into more of a real estate company than a ski area they don't do that anymore.

Alta is for skiers.
Alta does not get my rocks off.
I am a snowboarder.
And I damn sure ain't going to mess up a 6 month old knee for the fame of snowboarding at Alta early season. Big whoop.
Jong.

There was also something like 120 inches of snow in October that year. They might open early, but I don't think they employ the crew to do snowmaking that soon, so they would need a pretty long lasting storm cycle to get open by then.

I can't answer your question; but I will be in Solitude Nov. 9 - 11, so an early opening would be fine with me!

Nope. It won't be Brighton this year. Solly puts down the hammer and opens first in Utah this Friday, the 16th!
Reminds me of the old days...
