QUICK! Help me build my new 'cross bike!!
I have to order parts for my new BMC Cross Machine TODAY, before 11:00 EST!!
I don't have much money for it, but I do get a good discount off retail.
Does anyone have any ideas for trick parts or gear that I shouldn't miss?
Here's what I'm thinking:
* Easton EA70 aluminum bar
* Drivetrain: Ultegra SL or SRAM Force?
* Cranks: FSA Gossamer?
* Brakes: Spooky wide profile cantis?
* Pedals: Candys or Shimano SPD?
* Wheels: No idea. Help! *Anyone have a set for sale?*
* Tires: I have some Geax mexcal from last year that are holding up well
* Saddle: Specialized Toupe Gel
What am I missing?
What am I missing? The frame comes with an Easton EA90 fork and post.It's idomatic, beatch.

Get paul brakes, a set of neo-retros and a set of tourings( lots more adjustability than the spookys, and brake a lot better, plus so much easier to set up.)
Set of Salsa wide brake hangers
Swissstop pads
Tires-cindercross are nice for clinchers, I've run Challenge Grifos for the last few years on mavic reflex rims laced up to hugi 240 hubs, and its a been bomber/superlight. Also have a set of xtr hubs/laced to sun semi aero rims that have been ok, although the rims are narrower, and I'm not as crazy about them.
Dugast Typhoon if you can afford them, and the Tufo Flexus if you need a more aggressive tread. (These last three are all tubulars)
1x10 Ultegra, 12-27 cassette.
Keep it simple
Time pedals, much more positive engagement, and you wont need to rebuild them all time. There is a reason Crank Bros sponsors the series...they have to constantly service their parts.

I've got a line one some Mavic Krysuim clinchers from last year. Im not sure of the model... If you want more info let me know.
Clincher Tires, the Premiato is worth a look.
Tubies, Cantdog. Get with the new, FMB.Last edited by Andy_B; 10-11-2007 at 12:04 PM.

The only thing I can add is I have the Gossamers on my jakethesnake and they are holding up just fine. I haven't raced them yet though. I keep thinking I'm going to, but then wuss out and go DH'ing instead.
I'm so hardcore, I'm gnarcore.
