Octopus cost Allen over US$200 million and has Permanent crew of 60, including several former Navy Seals. It has two helicopters, seven boats, a 10 man submarine and a remote controlled vehicle for crawling on the Ocean floor. The submarine has the capacity to sleep eight for up to two weeks underwater.
On average, owners must spend a minimum of 10 percent of the purchase price every year to keep these yachts in good working condition and cover crew salaries. Therefore “Octopus” which cost Allen US$200 million requires a US$20 million annual budget.

He needs to chop out that helipad and replace it with a cradle to winch a sport boat into.
There was a famous mothership/gameboat operation that came up for sale in the past year. I tried to convince my wife that it would be a really good idea to buy it, but she didn't agree.

Mmmm- Gause Built.
Expensive hull, for an Aquasport.
They are really sweet boats. Just a bit out of most normal people's price range. For a guide, they make a lot of sense.
Where does he guide? Rhode Island/Stripers would be my guess.

The no wear part isn't really meaningful. We fished the crap out of my Merritt and she still looked brand new when I sold her.
I don't understand how you can run a boat from an enclosed flybridge, but a few captains do so successfully. The one thing that's completely stupid on that boat is the railing on the mezzanine in the cockpit. Why would you put in something that makes it harder for the angler to reach the rods?

To look pretty.
Also, no center rigger.
No rigging station.
I can't tell but it looks like it has a console up on the flying bridge outside the enclosed bridge.
That'd explain how they fish it with the enclosed flying bridge.
Poor skipper having to come out in the heat from the A/C.Last edited by likwid; 10-20-2007 at 05:42 PM.

You mean like the Lady J? Back in 2003 she was owned by the same guy that owned the Beauport, but I believe they have both changed owners at least once since then. Both are fully decked out as you'd imagine. Beauport, though somewhat ugly, has a shit-ton of character, and I was stoked to help deliver her from Roche Harbor to San Diego a few years ago. The Lady J was formerly the Quest of the Discovery Channel series.

I was actually thinking of French Look and the C-Condo/Freedom combination that the Chouests are selling. The one I tried to talk my wife into was the Hooker/Madam (I can't bear to use their current names).
The Beauport looks like a cool boat. Lady J looks like it has the yacht/game boat ratio all wrong.
I have this idea that someday I'm going to be a boat owner again. Sometimes I think I want a 40 foot open-bulkhead flybridge boat based in Baja, Guatemala, Costa Rica, or Panama. Other times I think I want to get an 80 foot trawler style boat with a boat deck big enough to hold a flats boat and a good sized center console, and use it to roam the Pacific.
Then I remember that my wife gets seasick, and my last boat was unconscionably expensive to own.

I've found that the best boats are the ones you don't own but can use just about as you like. Gov't-issue ones at that.
The Beauport IS a cool boat. She's was a Cdn. Coast Guard sounding vessel before she was converted into a yacht. Icebreaking hull, heli pad, 31' Blackfin, 26' and 19' RIB, jetskis, the whole deal. And more character than all of those generic bar-of-soap Feadships and other gelcoat shinejobs could ever have. The only bummer is the lack of effective water-level back deck.
I think that someone should convert this sweeeet gal to a nice yacht when she gets de-commissioned.
I also wouldn't refuse one of these.
