Good on ya' for getting the White Rim in those conditions. We ended up sticking with our plan and rode LPS on Saturday, cold, wet, red sand/mud fun. I'm thinking the shuttling is just about done for TWE after this winter low spins on. Friday was a beautiful day down there, rode MAG7 with a warm up at Deadhorse SP trails.

I loved the river we had running through SandFlats G loop on Sunday morning and the drunk bocce ball going on the night before with the BSC lady in the camp next to us probably on peyote or the like rambling on about recycling and having 2 campsites and other shit about peace and love and being. We were legitimately scared we were going to wake up with her slitting throats.

Thunder Mountain is not recommended just now. The dirt on 80% or more of that trail seems to handle a little moisture really well, but the transition to sticky clay and concrete at the high points turned an easy loop into a lesson in hiking what you ski (among other things). Oops. But what an awesome trail! 10/10 will ride again.

argh jono. I got trapped there once by an out-of-the-blue storm. Not forecasted and came out of a blue sky. It wasn't a pretty cleanup and myself and Shar walked the last part as the wheels wouldn't turn through the frame

That describes it perfectly--except we had clouds and should have known better. The camera in my brain captured the worst indelibly, but the sight of adobe over-tires extruding between chainstay bridge and BB is (perhaps thankfully) non-transferable. I think my bike topped out around 60 lbs.

Had that happen once too. We had a forecast with temps that would have been too cold for rain, and it was lightly snowing up at the top with frozen ground when we started. A different system moved in while we were traversing up top that warmed things up considerably and it started raining a bit. That was enough to get the bikes totally caked in mud on the descent. Not to the point wheels wouldn't turn but we'd still be chiseling that mud off 10 yrs later had the ranger station not let us use their hose to wash them right away before it hardened.

We made do with water bottles re-filled from the drinking fountain since the ranger station was closed when we got done, but that worked for critical areas--this was as good as it got before we found a hose yesterday:

Hi b-bear!
Vernal is fun for a couple of days. This time of year I would bet that the corrals area and Chrom-moly- Jazz are the only zones open. You can camp in the pinon-juniper out near the corrals west of town and do a ton of rides from there, and there's a BLM shitter. There's a good array- kids green rides, fun moderates, some technical rocky bits- out by the corrals at McCoy Flats https://www.trailforks.com/region/mccoy-flats/.

Then some fun red rock trails up by Red Fleet State Park, which has good camping too (pay sites), but I haven't been there in a while.

Great bike shop- Altitude Bikes- the owner Troy put in a lot of those trails and is super friendly and helpful. Call him for beta to see if trails are wet or what.

It was a bit colder/ wetter last w/e but it looks like the weather there clears up next week, although not really any warmer (the 1st drier looking trail pic is from vail/avon, the 2nd is from Vernal)
We just rd a quick lap at Red Fleet as we passed through on our way home- the dirt was pretty saturated but with the sunny weather forecasted, it should dry out nicely

There's a couple days of fun rides there. second to hit up the bike shop too
The rest of the town is a bit of a sh*thole, but the grittiness grew on me. If you like geology/ fossils there are also a couple fun hikes where you can see dinosaur footprints etc

It's worth checking out if you have never been

Vernal is fun for a couple of days.

I've passed through a few times en route to Co/Fruita, and have done most of the stuff around McCoy flats which was fun

I found the flume trail (higher elevation so n/s re conditions and mud) to be a more traditional (better) ride.

And flaming gorge ride was a scenic locale / ride to break up drive, but wouldn't call it a destination per se.
