thanks - probably not everyone's cup of tea (riding was insanely mellow) but the views and the solitude made it worthwhile. plus, I've been going to the swell for years (climbing and canyoneering), so to experience a very familiar landscape in a completely different way was absolutely lovely.

Cool weather put the brakes on our drying out. Helena trails dry in inverse order of difficulty, which makes early season fun. Thanks to Zwift this year hasn’t been too bad. Did some winch-and plummet today.

A little known alternative from S.UT. Passed a total of 6 people on trail and saw maybe 10 more total all weekend. No one camped within 1/2-1 mile.

With kids’ sports firing up the skiing isn’t looking good but the local spots have some mini golf.

I guess I'm one of the bastards who got into biking during corona and screwed the market for the rest of you but #sorrynotsorry

Seriously though, for the past 10 years I've been insisting that skiing and kayaking is enough fun and expense, but my gf managed to persuade my stubborn ass otherwise. Ordered a YT Capra when they dropped in March, as it seemed like basically the only bike it was possible to get hold of before next winter (and 2nd hand prices for 2018 bikes are the same as current new prices for same models), which arrived a week ago and I'm loving so damn hard. I'm a total noob/beater, but this is just SO much fun. Especially being able to pedal straight from home, after work, with no need for cars/busses/shuttles or other logistical faff. And really enjoying being a beginner and learning stuff too.

Got out every day last week to try trails on both sides of the valley, apart from the one we decided to go skitouring instead:

Honestly every ride feels like a pow day right now, just pure joy!

Good for you! Honestly biking is the best substitute I've found for ski touring; suffer up, fun down, repeat.

A gorgeous bike and trails doesn't make it so bad either, eh?

I remember when I thought it was a good substitute... now it’s what I crave and touring works when the single track is snowed in. 🤫

    There I said it!!

My Stumpy was squeaking a bit, while down for some maintenance, broke out my old Ti SS. Good fun and so quick uphill

My friends and I use the term “mudita” in these situations. It’s what I’m feeling reading your post and seeing those photos.
